Avant Love.

Here's my '02 A4 Quattro, and '08 3.2L A3.

A4 is gone, traded in for the A3.

How reliable are these Audi wagon? Are they Honda reliable, or "do not buy w/o comprehensive warranty"?

I won't keep mine without a warranty.
Too expensive to risk repair $$$$$$ IMO

The S4 Avant I sold in December was the most reliable Audi I've ever had. Leaky valve cover gaskets and worn front suspension bushings were the only issues. Small potatoes.

The A4 Avant before that was also solid except for some coil pack issues early on.

I owned both of those vehicles well after their warranties expired and would do it again.

The only one that was problematic was my allroad back in the day. Too many electronic gizmos crapped out. I sold it before the CPO expired.

My B7 S4 avant was very reliable as is my current RS4. When something does break it can be pricey but I think they are pretty solid vehicles!!

My A4 was bullet proof. As noted above, leaky valve cover seals and cam plugs but that was it. Just got rid of it with a170k on it with no issues. My A4 A ant got me through some wicked storms. I don't think the MErc Benz I replaced it with will be nearly as bullet proof.

I've had my '04 Avant since new, put almost 200k miles and never had any issues other than regular maintenance + new clutch with DMF and new alternator last year. The older it gets the more I like it. And it is more practical than most sedans...

I've got an 09 Avant, ~73k miles, nearing the end of warranty, and I'm having this debate... I've had it 3 years, from 45k, and had multiple warranty service issues.
sunroof drain plugged that led to a leak that led to a headliner replacement
the oil consumption issue fix
a water pump
power steering making noise under the dash
seat heaters biting the dust
3 ignition coils die in the middle of nowhere on long road trips

And I know I'm forgetting something else major...

The question is....has everything gone wrong, been fixed and now its ready to run a long time? You guys talking about reliable Avants all seem to have pre-B8...

I have an '02 with 86k miles on it. It has been pretty good overall. Last year put new coils on it and a new Turbo ($800.00) Other than that oil and Gas.

Both my A4 and A3 been very reliable. I put about 100k miles on A4 with just Gas + Oil + Scheduled Service. I put about 30k miles on A3 so far with same experience. My wife's civic was at the shop more than both of my audis, go figure.

Great thread!! I had an 04 B6 in black (6 speed manual) and loved it. I sold it and missed it so bad I found my (new to me) 06 B7 Avant Black (6 speed manual). She is a great ship and is hitting Lime Rock on Monday. It drives completely different than the 993 but still is a lot of fun. 1'st rule is turn off the ESP before you run on the track.

Also wish it was a RS4. Why Audi doesn't import to the US is a dam shame.
