Default RS carpet question

I'm going for a clean RS type front trunk look (starting down the slope gently). I did something similar on my '84 Carrera and it turned out real well. I've sourced another carpet that I am going to have cut to fit and that's where my question comes in. From the photos I have of the real deal the drivers side and the top does not run straight but has a couple of curved contours. From looking at the standard carpet fitment I don't see the need for them. Does anybody know what their purpose was and why it just isn't shaped as a simple rectangular piece?

Feel free to see how mine turned out - I cut straight across, it fits fine. Just adjust the placement with velcro.

Best,

Matt

Thanks Matt,

I'm going to cut mine below the tank like the RS and I see that on our cars the extra cutouts don't look to be required. I'm just trying to figure their original purpose.

The RS has a 92L tank so that explains why it's shaped differently from the one you are going to produce, since you have a normal tank?

The battery switch bracket. It makes the carpet easier to remove.

92L tank was option on the RS.

Agree cut out is for carpet to clear battery isolator switch mount.

I have a genuine RS front carpet here (not for sale!) if you need any measurements.
