I will be the contrarian here and suggest you drop the oil from the crankcase only. With the engine stone cold you're only going to get ~3 qts. out from that drainplug only. Then top it back off with Mobil 1 V Twin 20w50 which has a higher ZDDP value in addition to viscosity than 0w40.

I've done this before, with a stone cold engine you're not going to get the gusher of oil like you would on a hot engine and it's very easy to limit the drainage.

Thanks all. I have an oil change set up for tomorrow. The gauge is now not pegging above 5. Runs between 4 & 5+. ? It will be interesting to see what happens, if anything, when I get the 0/40 out and the 15/50 in. RWM

Did you remove any oil or the gauge just went back to normal function on its own? It doesn't peg with key in ignition anymore either?

You won't notice any difference (perhaps a bit less "rattle" noise when cold, and a touch more oil pressure when hot), but your engine will be very much happier for the long run.

It sounds to me like you will be getting yourself a new sender... next time this one fails.

Well had the oil changed out Friday and the oil gauge stopped working again and has not returned to normal. Any idea on what this "little" job might cost? RWM

For most services, the better choice is to find a good independent mechanic who knows our 993s or DIY. Any dealer mechanic under age 35 was in high school or trade school when the last 993 was produced. For instance, a 993 oil change takes effort. Besides getting the correct weight oil, once you add oil, you need to run the engine until it's at operating temp, then add the rest....in order to get an accurate fill. Adding 12 quarts cold is an overfill.

I've done the oil in my 993 for the past 12 years. It's not that challenging, but it takes a good 1 1/2 hours. But then I know it's done correctly. Check out p-car.com for a diy if you've not been there yet.
