Default HID and other lighting issues

hi all.
hope i explain this correctly..
there are three bulbs in my headlamps,
one low beam halogen in the projector (i put in 4k silverstar)
and two HID aftermarket bulbs installed below for highbeams.

PO installed what looks like the 'DD' HID kit for those two lower bulbs.
only one of the two bulbs responds to the highbeam flasher
(yes i have tried both HB stalk positions, forward and back)
its plenty bright so i dont see the need for the 2nd highbeam bulb at all.

***there are only two bulbs. it was pointed out that i was looking
at the leveling device near the bottom of the headlamp***

issue 1-
can this setup be re jiggered so i can put an HID in the projector
and leave one in the highbeams? (the silverstars are white but too weak)
should i use one of the 55w HID bulbs in the projector or go down to 35w?
does anyone know how i can activate second HID bulb for this purpose?

issue 2-
when i have lowbeams AND (stock) fogs on, the blue HB indicator illuminates
at about half strength, and also does flicker. certainly looks like a short.
the HB indicator properly goes to full strength when HBs are swtiched on.
any help there? (installing silverstars did not cause this)

issue 3-
i bought turbo S air scoops with 38w bulbs from MA shaw , as recommended on RL.
this setup will remove the parking lights. what does one do with that unused wiring?

i could just send it all into the shop to sort out but i am attempting a little more DIY on this car.

thanks for any help , john.

John,
There should only be two bulbs in your headlight unit. One in the projector for the lowbeam, and below that is another bulb for highbeam. There is no second HB bulb. You maybe looking at the level to aim headlight angle.
You can definitely put HID in the projectors. 35W seems plenty bright. I sleep better going with 35 than 55, for fear of melted wires. Some folks here run the 55 without issue. HID in your highbeam is probably effective if you drive alot on dark roads. They are however less effective to "flash" on coming cars due to the fact they need few seconds to reach max intensity.

I would not put HIDs in the High Beam, for one, there is a delay in igniting them due to the ballast, so the "flashing" will not work well.

All told, with HIDs (35W in mine) in the Low beam location, I really have little need for high beam.

I did put Super White bulbs in my High Beams and fog lights for color consistency however.

High Beams are less about output than they are about aiming.

I just went through this last week. I bought an HID kit and the H1 bulbs would not fit in the low beam holes so I put it in the high beam slot. I was getting that faint highbeam indicator too. Then I read past forums and found out that some people had to slightly ream out the opening in the low beam hole so that the bulbs would fit. I got a Dremel with a cutting bit and very slightly enlarged it. The H1 HID bulbs fit in the hole. They work great and the faint highbeam problem went away. Inspired by this new lighting, I then went back in and replaced the highbeams with some bright white Silverstars and also some PIAA H3's for the fog lights. My lights are almost as good as my 2010 Range Rover now (which has the best headlights of any car i have ever driven). So, I would encourage you to install those HID's that are in your high beam to the low beam slot.

I've never used my highbeams in the six years I've had the HIDs in the low beam position.

You probably want the 35 w in low beam and keep Hi beam conventional. Supplement light with higher wattage fogs as you have been doing.

I have the 55w HID in the lowbeam They are bright. I find that because my car is low and I have to aim them high enough to see ahead that I get flashed from oncomers.

I am going to go back the 35 w ballasts and hope they are good.

After having the aftermarket HIDs for a while now I miss the more natural lights of the plain old halogen lighting that I have had on some older cars...I have not found the "right" solution for my 993 yet.
