Default HELP! Both Electric windows have failed on 1997 U.S.A. 993 cab

Hi fellow members for some reason both electric windows on my 1997 U.S LHD model 993 cabriolet have stopped working. I thought perhaps it may be a fuse since both stopped working but I checked the fuse box, according to the "Porsche essential companion" it's fuse 4 for electric windows and that fuse is fine so can any one help me?

Thanks. Steerpike.

How do you know the fuse is good?

The fuse has no sign whatsoever of burn or having been blown so I had it tested at automotive elecric shop, a ok.

Can you swap another fuse in the same spot, and confirm?

There is also a relay you can check, have you checked that?

Switches may be the problem but both at the same time on the same day, I dunno. will check it out tho.
I am more inclined to ask Tonydec where I would find the relay first, over to you Tony

I was always under the impression that they were somehow linked and if one went bad (don't remember which one) then they would both die. I could be totally wrong though!

The schematic on the underside of the fuse box cover tells you what all the fuses and relays go to...consult that and you should have the problem figured out in no time.

You are correct. If you remove one switch, the others don't work.

If one switch goes bad, it affects the operation of the other switches, even if the other switches are still working fine. I'm no electrical wiz, but I'm guessing it might be due to a loss of continuity in the circuit...? Just like a bad bulb on your christmas tree lights. Try swapping the switch that is on your passenger door with the faulty driver's door switch, making sure that all three switches are connected.

I had this happen. If the drivers side goes bad it breaks the circuit and the passenger one does not work either. Try swapping the passenger side for the drivers side to see if it is the switch. You may only have to replace one switch.

Check relay R22 for power windows, Pg 389 and pg 423 of your essential companion book. Accordingto what is said if both windows fail it's the relay.

Cheers!
