Default Varioram removal

I am thinking about pulling my Varioram assembly to address leaking upper valve cover gaskets, get my injectors cleaned and replace the engine pad. Has anyone done this? If so, any good DIY instructions out there? I've done a search and couldn't really find anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Kevin

The DIY installation link in my sig might help - just reverse the steps.

Cheers,
Joe

been there done that, would not do it again, would drop engine. Hardest is the accelerator cable. You could spend so much time trying to put it back.
here is the old thread

if you need instructions, I can write a DIY and it will be a ROW diy. No SAI as you can see

The trick is to loosen the engine two rear mount bolts but not remove them completely (support engine /w jack while doing this). This will give you almost an inch in room.

Next, remove airbox, rear blower, etc. Loosen the 6 intake runner clamps which hold the varioram to the engine. Then just pop off the varioram and let it settle down to next to the intake. This then will give you plenty of room to reach back and undo the accelerator cable.

I thought it would be relatively simple but at this point it may make more sense to drop the engine.

I take it you are removing the Varioram to replace the engine pad, because if it is anything like my non-Varioram, the other two tasks can be done very easily with the intake in place.

Mainly, also, the car is inside for the winter so I can take my time. I would rather have an easier time reaching all these things as opposed to trying to squeeze and contort myself through our lovely but tight engine compartment. I know how that feels changing all plugs an wires engine in!

Sooo much easier to drop the engine 12" or so.

You could have easy access in very little time, no need to pull it all the way out.

Agreed.

In fact, I was able to install my Vram without dropping the engine at all. Made possible by deleting the cruise control which was useless to me anyway. It's really not that hard.

Dropping the engine does not make this job that much easier. In the end it is probably equal to the little bit of extra time figuring around certain elements of the engine compartment.

Been there done that. Dropping the engine 12" or completely wouldn't make the WHOLE job easier. But lowering it 1" by undoing the rear engine mount bolts would give you the room needed to get to the various components and take the varioram intake out.

Aftrer that, replacing wires, valve cover, plugs, sound pads, SAI valve, intake breather gasket, engine wiring harness etc. are a cinch.

Look at all that room!!!
