Default Alternator Died?

So Today I was driving my 95 c2 and all of a sudden I noticed the battery-light come on, I gave it some throttle and it went away..I figured it was just a glitch. Later on in the day it came on again, but as i gave it some throttle the light became dimmer, but still remained on. As I was driving home, I turned off the headlights to conserve battery power...Some random warning lights started coming on...The second i got home she died completely. I checked the alt belt..its a bit worn out, but still ok. So I guess the alternator went?
Any thoughts

Maybe.

Do some simple tests.

Charge up the battery fully. Measure the battery voltage. Start the car. Turn on a few higher load devices such as high beams, heater fan, rear window defroster. Take the revs up to 2000 RPM. Measure battery voltage again. What is it?

..... also, remove the battery cables and clean contact surfaces of both posts & cables.

Do the measurements Alex noted: if a digital multimeter is not in the tool kit, a perfectly serviceable one can be had for <$20. These measurements will indicate if either the battery or alternator is suspect .... it would need to be a very loose belt to keep a good alternator from putting out 14+ volts.
