No you wouldn't. But like most of us here we would like to have that E30 in our garage.

I should have said if the prices were not so high. I always hear how bulletproof the 30's are and I don't have the same feeling about the R.

Don't think that the R32 is anymore unreliable than any other VW/Audi of similar vintage. What is that makes you nervous oh prickly one? Generally speaking VW's are very reliable. My '93 Corrado, which had a previous iteration of the VR6 powerplant found in the R32, suffered from the well known gremlins that plague the model ie leaking heat exchanger (replaced under recall), drivers side window regulator and a few minor electrical issues. Other than breakdowns due to age related problems it served me well.

We're highjacking the thread here. I was just giving Cactus a hard time because he had to recently fix something on his .:R and mine is for sale which has been and continues to be very reliable.

OK back to why none of us ponied up the $20k to buy one of these and now I have to possibly see it around the NoVa area mocking me.

I have put $1000 into the R in just over a year. I knew it wasn't going to be super reliable going in compared to my Accord but a friend has one with 124K and dead reliable. I just seem to have "that luck"

I used mine as a daily for a few years. It worked perfectly. The big problem was all the "body kit" questions, & finding a good parking spot.

The BIG downside of the E30 M3 is price. Just go & price tune up parts. he plug wires are $350, the cap & rotor are $350, & spark plugs are $1$16 a piece. It cost far more money to keep my E30 running then both my 993's & the car was SUPER reliable! The slippery slop is far bigger!

I never really added it all up, but the block & head work were around $30k, then all the BMW Motorsport add ones cost about another $10k ish. Then a few $k more to get the A/N up & running properly, at the I time, this was one of the only cars running it.

In the end, it was around $100k investment over 6 years or so, the first few years I just drove it.

Why are parts so expensive? I actually have been spooking around on Vlad's (Carreraboy) site looking at regular/non M E30's. Are parts for a regular E30 as expensive? I don't need an M but it would be cool.

17,000 cars made in 4 years, a ton of parts are for that car only, hence the price. A lot of parts are NLA. You should see what a used dead pedal goes for!

E30 M3 parts are usually 3X or more then normal E30 parts. E30's are very
,very well built, & very reliable. If you get one that has been cared for it will last forever with normal maintenance.

The standard E30 is a solid car and parts a very cheap . Look at the huge Spec E30 crowd and how many lemons cars are built w/ the E30 chassis.

The EVO M3 parts are even more crazy expensive! Here's a picture of an EVO I saw this past summer in Munich.

I'll own another E30 M one of these days.
