Oil change + Seafoam ?
Taking the 993 in for the year end oil change. BTW this is the only bit of maint. i won't do myself. Not up for a hot oil shower or garage floor spillage.
The mechanic (a well respected air-cooled wrench in these parts) was recommending a Seafoam treatment as well, mind you this was over the phone as he has never seen my car before. He gave a rather long explaination as to the benefits on an air cooled motor. Need some unbiased opinions if this is a money grab or nessesary ? The car currently runs/idles great and the top end was done 10k miles ago......

Ok, I'll bite. What's a "Seafoam" treatment involve? ... and I'll say this upfront... it sounds like muffler bearings to me ....

I am not sure what to make of the recommendation. Nor whether you should be using this wrench.
Here is the info on Seafoam treatments.

Here's my (non-Porsche) SeaFoam story: Gas gauge on my GM SUV went T/U. Thought I needed a new sending unit. A friend told me to dump a can of SeaFoam into the tank. I thought, "What do I have to lose?" Tried it, gas gauge fixed.
I don't know what's in it (sea monkeys?), but it saved me a bunch of money. This stuff has been around since the the word for dirt was "UG", so it must have something going for it.

I believe the idea of the seafoam treatment is to remove carbon deposits and prevent buildup (ie:SAI/check engine light). Perhaps Steve W or Chris W can weigh in on this....

I used this stuff in my old SUV and it works great! I ran half a can in the crank for about 100 miles then do oil change. The other half a can gets sucked in a vacuum line. Then......let the show begin. Go drive it and start a smoke-show to **** off the neighbors It's just the Seafoam burning off and only lasts 30-45 sec

FWIW: I considered Seafoam for my 993, so just as a "test," I took my Dodge V-8 to a CA smog station before using Seafoam and the next day after after using Seafoam. No difference in results on any of the smog checks. It did create a cool smoke cloud though.
