Interesting! First time I've seen that color on a 993gen and I'm a fan!
Its funny because I usually prefer black, grey, blue, red or green whether it be a flat, metallic or pearl finish but hey change is a good thing sometimes.

Subbed for more pics skicoach thanks!

The Porsche 911 "Red Book" I referenced was written by Patrick Paternie, and published by Motorbooks.

Sorry 'bout that...
No need to be.

When I pull it and my motorcycles out in the spring, they always feel like new toys.

Yep, have a copy, and it's a good 'quick reference' book but limited.

Nice - thanks for sharing!

As for the winter storage, it's about a month away for me. But as previously mentioned, it's literally a "new car" in the spring. Driving a Hyundai through the winter tends to accentuate the pleasure, I might add...

I have to agree...the early spring drives in late February are something that our warm weather freinds just can't imagine!

Sure would love to see some hi res picts of that Mirage silver

I'll have some better pics up in the am that show the color better. I think it may be the only one like it in the US.

^^^ very nice S in a unique color. Can I ask a favor? What is the factory paint color code for Mirage Metallic printed either on the paint sticker on the driver's side inner fender (under the trunk carpet) OR the sticker on the underside of the trunk lid? TIA

Yes ... sort of. My factory paint sample kit and Adrian Streather's book shows it as 554 .. but as we all know, these numbers change in the factory depending on the mix of paint types and other options ordered. Normally, paint codes are two numbers and a letter so I suspect that the first two numbers '55' is the Mirage Metallic designator and the last digit, either 4 or 5 plus the letter code differentiates between oil based and the newer water based paints that became required by the European air standards in 1997 .. can you tell I'm a geek?? As an example, there are 3 codes for Arena Red and they are all a slightly different color but they all have the numbers 84 in them ... mine is L84S which is the purple/wine water based paint (1998) but there are two others .. one is quite brown and the other has a lot of orange highlights in it.

Did some more research. L555 was actually a special order paint that was similar to meridian metallic but was made as a water base for pearl effect. "Mirage Metallic". Thanks to all of you for stirring this. I just thought it was a beautiful color and was told it was very rare.

Yes, the 'pearl effect' is the water-based metallic's formulated in 1997 to pass the stricter European air quality standards for industrial paints. What year is your car? I'm guessing late '97 build as a '98 model year?
