Sometimes the greatboxes come up. You can also ping Gert at carnewal.com, he at times comes across some. There are other people on the list who might have contacts as well.

Either way, its a lot of $$, so be prepared.

Cheers

What's a ballpark figure to re-gear to ROW specs? I've never seen anyone talk figures, just phrases like "not cheap," and "really expensive" which can be kind of scary in this camp.

Try a search...was a good thread recently with some options on this. There are various ways to do it.

I am sure someone here has some actual numbers, but just rounding things off in my head, it would probably be around $10k. That's figuring in, R&R the box, shipping it to someone, they tear it down, clean and inspect, buying the ROW gear sets, buying/replacing all the stuff you need "while you are in there" (bearings synchros, gaskets, etc), maybe rebuilding the LSD (if applicable), putting it all back together & shipping it back to you.

Of course, you are probably going to want to do a flywheel and clutch while you are in there too, so there's another ~$13-1400 for stock components.

Now, if you put that $10K towards a 993TT, in combination with selling your current car...you are significantly there. The Turbo's transmission has more appropriate gearing and more power to boot. That was another of the consideration I had when I moved to the TT. I was after a re-geared transmission, but by the time I did all the math, it made more sense this way, at least to me. (The TT is not for everyone).

Cheers,

Mike

I did a search, but the only dollar-related figure I turned up was $12,000 that someone said it cost to import a whole transmission from the other side of the pond..but yeah that's quite a chunk of change. I'll be dropping in a new clutch soon, but that might have to wait until the next time, haha..

Travis,

The cost of re-gearing really depends on what you want to do as there are MANY variables here. Further, the condition of your transmission also affects the end cost.

Call me for details since its really too much to post here.

Hi Steve, thanks for the offer...I'm not serious about it at the moment, was just curious. I've got a few things that need attention first, but when the time comes I will definitely give you a call!

Anyway, sorry for the threadjack OP! Good luck with the search..
