Hey Chuck,
Congrats to you. I hope you continue to be part of this forum.
I too retired this year and it has allowed me to rethink a number of priorities.
Which BMW did you order? I am a long time BMW guy too and currently have two BMWs under lease. Our 535xi is coming off lease in 8 months. The 5 Series is one of our favorites and seriously thinking of buying it at lease end. I say this every time my lease expires and usually pony up for a new one. But I am more serious about buying it this time.

I ask for measly little $60K loan from my RL brothers (I have the rest in cash) and you guys let me down...I though all Porsche drivers were rich anyway?
Congrats Chuck! I'm betting that we will see a "rejoined the 993 fold" thread in your future....

I have owned this Artic Silver with black interior 1997 Porsche 993 Turbo for two years. When I bought it in November of 2009 it had 38,617 miles on it. I drove it home from Texas putting 1500 miles on it and just returned from Rennsport Reunion IV in Monterey where I put 700 miles on it. It now was 42,484 miles. Besides those two trips, I have only put 1,667 miles on it in two years. My wife and I have four cars and have just ordered a fifth. The herd needs to be thinned.
The original window sticker listed the car for $114,634. The original options were Heated Front Seats, Aluminum Shifter and Brake handle, Aluminum/Chrome Package, Infra-Red Security System, Lumbar Support Left and Right, Bose High End Sound Package, Console Switch Frame/Tunnel in Leather, Leather Tray behind Parking Brake, Standard Porsche Floor Mats, Standard Turbo Equipment, Black Leather Interior, and AM/FM Cassette Player.
Since buying it I have made the following modifications – OEM 993 Hard Back Heated Sports Seats with Painted Backs, Red Seat Belts, FD Motorsports Fister 993 Turbo Sport Mufflers, Bilstein HDs with M030 ROW Springs, Gert’s Front Protection Bar, FD Motorsports Short Shifter Kit, FD Motorsports RS Style Shift Rod (AKA Golden Rod), Wevo Motor Mounts, Walrod Front Bushings, Modified 4-Spoke Steering Wheel, Front Oil Cooler Fan Override Switch, HID High Beams (HID Low Beams are standard equipment), CDR-210 (OEM CD Radio), an OEM Electronic Day/Night Rear View Mirror and Michelin N3 Pilot Sports put on at 40,250 miles and mounted on freshly powder coated OEM Hollow Turbo Twist Wheels. There may be more.
I have bleed the brake fluid, changed the transmission fluid and the front differential fluid and replaced a liter of power steering fluid with fresh fluid. I have changed the oil twice; once on 1/2/2010 at 40,407 miles and the last time on 11/1/2010 at 41,250. The last time I used Motul 300V 15w50.
The car has had four prior owners;
First Owner – Indiana, January 15, 1997, to December 3, 1998; 24 months.
0 to 19,953 miles, 19,953 total miles; 831 Miles month average, 9,976 year average.
Second Owner - Florida, December 3, 1998, to May 6, 2000; 17 months.
19,953 to 27,900; 7,947 total miles; 467 miles per month average, 5609 year average.
Third Owner - Washington & California, May 6, 2000, to March 2009; 8 years 10 months.
27,900 to 37,800; 9,900 total miles; 93 miles per month average, 1,116 year average.
Fourth Owner - Texas, March 2009 to November 2009; 8 Months.
37,800 to 38,617; 817 total miles; 100 miles per month average.
I am the fifth owner of the Porsche – November 2009 to Present; 23 months.
38,617 to 42,484; 3867 miles; 168 miles per month.
The car is well documented and I have a notebook of paperwork on the car. In 2000 the third owner took the car to Eurotech Bodywerks in Kirkland Washington for a complete repaint. The total cost for the work was $9062.56. According to Eurotech (I called them prior to buying the car), the owner (a VP at Microsoft) had a scrape on the side of the car that had been touched up by the prior owner but was visible. The owner elected to have the entire car stripped to bare metal prior to painting to ensure there was no prior damage to the car and to ensure when the repair job was completed it matched the rest of the car. With the exception of one small stone chip on the hood and two small chips on the left rear fender, the car is flawless. There is 3M cover on the front bumper, side view mirrors and the door handles.
The clutch was replaced in February of 2001 at 29,955 miles by Barrier Porsche in Bellevue Washington. The receipt shows a total cost of $3745.33.
The turbos were rebuilt and the turbo oil lines were upgraded in September of 2004 at 34,606 miles by Guy’s Independent Porsche Care in San Luis Obispo. The receipt shows a total cost of $3098.20.

Chuck, Someone is going to get a hell of a nice car. A beautiful car. You've been a great contributor here. Don't go away.
I've always had the ultimate respect for those who dedicated their careers to protect and serve. Thanks for that. Enjoy the heck out of your retirement. You deserve it.
YOu've had one of Porsche's finest machines and you've been to the Museum. Porsche will always be in your blood. Hang out here every once in awhile. And maybe we'll see a post in the future that says 'look what I got.'
