A 2002TT for $29K: http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/cto/2653387378.html
Got me thinking. That's a lot of car for the money. That's also half the price of a 993TT. A very real and very serious supercar for the street. At that price - just doesn't add up.
Not for me, and no affiliation, of course, but it would be hard to be convinced that it's not a great buy.

Its hard to not want a 996TT right now. I just hate the 996 front end (no offense to anyone)- otherwise I'd likely have a TT or GT3 in the garage. I've never seen one listed that low other than the white car in Excellence a few months back which a guy picked up in the mid-$20ks.

Was there not a kit to round out the front headlights - it hids the butt-ugly running lights ?
Yes, its cheap, yes its very fast, yes extraordinary bang for the buck, but one ones I have have driven - blahh. No soul. Or at least not to me.
Having just forked out for a 97 993tt about the equivalent of TWO 996tt's, i still think I did the right thing. Actually, I am sure I did.
(oops - flame suit on).
Cheers,
Mike

Mike, I don't think you'll get any flames here. I think 993TT and 996TT are in different categories. I'm actually mulling over what would have been a perfect car for you a few month ago - a 993TT driver (as in not a garage queen) with 40K miles at more than a reasonable price.
What I'm saying is that 996TT is in a supercar league in its own right and for that money...

The 996TT is at the top of my "What Porsche to Own Next" list. While the price on this particular car is extremely low and somewhat of an anomaly, the vast majority of 996TTs, which are now 8-10 years old, are entering a price range that was occupied by 993s when I purchased my 8 year old 993 in '04. The way I look at it mid $40k's buys a lot more Porsche performance today than it did 8 years ago.
Honestly, the headlights don't bother me that much.

I almost bought a 996TT instead of the 993 a couple of years ago. I definitely see one in my future. But might wait for the 997.2 because the prices will go down just as much if not more, since they made even more of those than the 996TT

Let's see, do I want to buy this car.... blown engine, chattering clutch, gee, seems like he really treats his stuff well...
That is one heck of good price though, no doubt about it.
