Question What to use to wash windows clean without streaks?

That's from the inside.
Windex is useless.

What type of cleaner really works leaving no streaks?

With special micro-fiber rags or paper towels?

Much appreciated.

Yeah, for some reason newspaper is pretty good - I use a good glass cleaner and either a well-used well-washed microfibre towel or newspaper. It still a lot of work to get it perfect, especially if you are facing the sun (the best way to see what is dirty). Any pits on the outside will show up quite a bit too.....

Windex did not seem to do much for me, and I did not like the spray coming down on the dash, etc.

You might want to google a bit and see what comes up from some of the detailing forums.

Cheers,

Mike

A neat trick is to wipe the inside of the glass vertically, and the outside of the glass horizontally. Makes it easier to see whether the streaks are on the inside or the outside.

Not sure if "Invisiglass" is available in Canada?

Has anyone tried a little mild dish washing liquid in warm water (Not the strong soap for dish washers) first and then follow up with a glass cleaner?

If Invisiglass isn't available, you can use Vinegar Diluted 1:1 with water and use newspaper. Put it in a spray bottle. Try to use new pieces of newspaper after a few wipes or else it will start shredding and leaving little pieces of paper on the windows.

Elbow grease. Two towels (or newspaper as suggested), glass cleaner of your choice. Make a first pass with the "wet" towel, getting anything that's on the glass off. Wipe fast to get a sheen, then as the sheen just starts to evaporate, wipe thoroughly with the dry towel. Make sure to hit all corners. Inspect and make another pass with a small spritz and the dry towel as needed. Done!

Try a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid in a gallon of water (very little soap). Use a microfiber towel to gently soap the window, then use a small clean rubber squeegee to dry it.

That's how the pros clean house windows (with a bigger squeegee), and it works like a charm. Keep wiping the squeegee dry with a clean towel as you go.

It's the near-lack of soap and zero rubbing with a towel that eliminates the streaking. YMMV

Rubbing alcohol will easily remove the film on the inside of the glass

Invisiglass works fairly well. I mainly just use a water-dampened chamois and it leaves no streaks.

+1 for Stoner's Invisible Glass (and a laundered microfibre cloth). I've tried loads of different brands and this is by far the best I've used up to now.

I've always used Windex and it left no streaks provided you cleaned the windows twice and you didn't cheap out on the paper towels.

Evening drives are when you know if they are clean or not.

I recently bought some Invisible Glass from Stoner at Costco and Wal-Mart. Its good but I don't see it being any better than Windex.
