Right away, I said something ain't right.
How much time do you allow, after the car is locked, for the light to potentially shut off? If your waiting minutes, it's not that fast. It's more like hours. If it takes days, something is not right.
Is your battery properly maintained? All cells full with distilled water?

If it's the Porsche (or any other) CTEK charger you can leave it on 24/7 as long as you like. You still should check the electrolyte levels in the battery once in a while though - this applies the "sealed" type batteries as well.

Depends. Some batteries appear "sealed" which is nothing more that a strip across the top of the battery, or flush caps. Those can be topped off.
Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) AGM or GEL batteries should not be opened.

Turns out my battery must have been weak. The charger finally started cycling after a week.
