Default Do you remember that first day?

I remember that first day I saw a black 911 sometime in Sep 1996. Not sure if it was a 964 or a 993 but it was sitting along one of the streets in Union Square in S.F. Wow, I told myself I have to own one of these cars!

It took me some time to get one but it is amusing to remember such a moment. The image is perfectly clear in my mind. Completely stock but georgeous.

I saw a 930 back in 1979 and was hooked.

Don't remember the first time I saw one but do remember my first ride. It was in the late 70s and a friends' dad had a late 70s Targa. Knew I had to have one from that time on.

It was a new, 1973 black on black 911S for me. I was the "lot lizard", (car wash kid) at a dealership in Oregon. It had black Recaros and naturally, S wheels. I was hooked, hard.

In 1998 a structural engineer friend of mine pulled up in the parking lot next to my humble 1982 911SC in his just delivered Ocean blue and tan interior 993C2S, I knew immediately that I needed to get one of my own.

1966. My neighbor's dad worked for Veale Volkswagon and he brought a Black 1964SC Cabriolet home from work one evening and gave all of us a ride in it ... I was stuck in the backseat between two other kids .... the smells, the sounds ... and those incredible grills in the back.... My fathers new Grand Prix looked like a dinosaur after that ...

Ha, I had a few of those "moments".

1. The 80s. I was probably 7 or 8 years old. A guards red 930 blasted by our Fiat on the freeway, then let out a foot of fire from the exhaust! Love at first sight.

2. Late 80s. Secretly watched, (so my parents wouldn't find out), "No Man's Land" with Charlie Sheen 1000s of times ...So much Porsche p0rn for my little brain....

3. 1990. Birthday gift: Commodore Amiga 2000 computer and Test Drive 2, The Duel. I only ever drove the silver 959....and left the "italian trash" F40 for my buddies.

1978, saw a Road & Track with a test drive of the 911SC. Wanted a Targa from that day.

When I was a kid (8-10) I would ride my bike to 7-11 for baseball/football cards and a slurpee. We would always cruise through the local bank's parking lot, if the weather was decent there would be a nice Red/black late 70's 911 targa parked in the corner.

Knew then and there I'd own a 911 one day. As a convertible freak, I went crazy in '83 when they unveiled the cab.

Right. And they quit making REAL Porsches at the end of that series. All downhill from there. (For Rennsport, should I try to find one of those "sure they made Porsches after 1965, but who cares" t-shirts that were so plentiful in the '70s? Or "real Carreras have 4 cams"? Oops......the M96 engines kind of kill that bit of nostalgia.)

Anyway, 1973 for me, or maybe it was '74 when they finally showed the races on Wide World Of Sports--the IROC series. Then the 930 was introduced, saw them in magazines, and went "hmmmmm"...... Couple were around town. But what got me truly hooked was the high school teacher with the T5 Super 90 Roadster a couple of years later, and the Panorama and Nugget (Golden Gate Region) magazines he brought to class that last semester of my high school days. Saw articles about the competitions going on in the parking lot (autocross) and track. Went up to Sears to watch the cars in action, and liked what I saw. Couple of months later I had a faux '68 S. And the rest is history.

I remember a TV commercial where a major gas company was giving away a late 60s/early 70s 911 Targa as a prize. I think that is when I first noticed.

I remember my mom bringing me car magazines from Germany when she would be on a European concert tour there. I'd pick the Carrera, RS and RSR in the classified sections...how affordable they used to be.

I remember a friend letting me drive his '68 (?) 911 Targa in the early 80s (it had mechanical fuel injection). Someone also let me drive their 914; I still have a soft spot for the 914 despite it being ignored by so many.

I was never really in Porsches when I was young. I liked them, but Italian cars were my hart & soul. The I owned a few Fiats, & a Lancia, that cured me of my Italian fix.

My friend hit the loto, back in 95. He was a die hard Porsche guy. He showed up at my house with a shinny yellow 993, & then took me on a thrilling ride around the hood. I wanted one, but knew they were way out of my league. Then when I was heavy into tracking my BMW, another friend took me around the track in his 993 TT, got me car sick. I then spent about the amount of a new 911 building up my BMW. While it was faster then most Porsches on track, it was temperamental, & hard to drive around town. The allure of the 911 was calling!

Then when I was older & wiser, I sold the BMW & purchased my dream Porsche the C4S.

Saw a white 911 in prob 78 or 79 ...wow! Wide, squat, and stealthy looking; stark white with all thoese black accents and black stone guards contrasting against the huge tires on the classic fuchs ...yeah, it was the late 70s and there was nothing like it on the road. I was hooked! Didn't take long to find 911 and 930 posters to tape up in my bedroom (ok, and a 308, but you can't hold that against me ).

i saw a 993 like 4 years ago on craiglist.....then the same car came up on craiglist last year. That got me curious and my mom was digging through my toy car couple months ago from when i was really a kid like 10 years ago , turns out i had three 993 die cast models ! So my parents did embed 993 in my mind when i was a kid
