Hello all,
This might belong in the Wanted category. Yet, because it addresses going back from a modern 997S to a 993 4S, I thought of sharing about it here. I know I am not the only one.
I live up here in Seattle since September 2010, and I have owned a 996 Targa (back home in Paris), a 996 40th anniversary and now a 997S cab. I am not in the habit of keeping my cars very long. I want them all frankly, and I am mostly just trying to form an opinion (by owning them and driving them).
This leads me to my current quest: I really LOVED the 996 40th anniversary. I sold it to buy a 997S Cab to try modernity, comfort and top down (the ride is harsh in a 996 40th). And I found it. The 997S is better. Or is it?
I have to say (and I hear critics already), that I miss the 996 40th engine. That X51 package is truly amazing. I would never consider a 996 without it. It felt so much faster. I haven't tried a 997 with X51 though (I will save that for the next time).
The 997S cab is amazing nonetheless. It is so much easier to drive. It steers better, handles better (even in a cab), is roomier, looks better (than a 996), has a great sound system and is very versatile. With the top on, it feels like a coupe, with the top down, well... it is just the best experience I have had in a 911.... but that is over for me for the next 9 months!![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
When I bought the 997 I also test drove a 993 4S. I fell in love with it. I regret not buying it and I really want one now!
I am therefore selling my 997S and am looking for a 993 4S (or a turbo, but not realistic) at around $40K (possibly less). I am set on Guards Red on Tan, that would be the dream. However, I will consider Green, black and blue on Tan. I will appreciate any help I can get from you fro this quest.
There are a few of them out there on the web but I thought I would ask the club first.
I have found and driven a silver one in Seattle. I loved it but it is a bit too much in price for me.
Long live air cooled!

To add to the discussion I am including pictures of my previous and current cars. From the 996 targa to the 40th anniversary, and then the current 997S convertible and the target car, a Red on Tan 993 4S.

If you want any help when you find one let me know. Right now I don't know of any local C4S's for sale, but will keep you in mind.
Good luck with your search, just know the buy in for a good C4S can be higher then you think.

Hello all,
Just wanted to give you an update and take the opportunity to ask you all a question.
I have seen this car. It fits the bill. it does have a carfax reported accident but I am told it is minimum. I will go drive it tonight and will ultimately do a PPI if I am interested.
My question has to do with the AeroKit. I have read here and there that it can be removed. Is that so? if yes I will gladly trade it for the standard lid and front bumper if someone is interested.
what do you think about the car?

Yes, the aerokit can be removed. I think the car looks great as-is. Why don't you take your time on replacing the aerokit and see if it grows on you? BTW, I love that color combo. Good luck.

Thanks on the recomendation about aerokit. Will let you know what happens.
Craig, completely agree. I have driven many 993 before (and 964s for that matter). Performance is not what I am looking for in a 993. More connected feeling, sounds and timeless design.
I am certain I will miss the power of my current 997S also.
I think this is always an interesting intersection. I have recently driven M5s and RS4s, arguably better performers... but they left me unimpressed.
I will report out tomorrow after the drive.

Are you looking at the car that Park Place is selling? If so, make sure you get a PPI!!!
Don't remove the Aero kit, it add value to the car, if you don't like, just get a car with out it!
DAM, C4S prices have DROPPED!

If you're interested, I have a '96 C4 Cab that I have decided to sell...I just bought an '06 C2S.
But, I'm on the East Coast and it might not be convenient for you.

Hi all,
Didn't realize my post was getting traction. I need to make sure I get a notification via email.
Let me randomly answer questions:
I am only looking at widebody C4S 993s. No cabs, no narrow bodies.
Haven't put my car up for sale yet. it will be hard to part from it and I am tempted to run the risk of keeping it until I find the right one.
I will probably ask $49k for it.
Mike,
I drove the 993 4S at park place. I will pass. A lot of shaking, some weird noises and a carfax. Great interior though. I will never buy a car with them without a PPI.
I had my 997S taken to Mark at Aker's before I bought it. I knew it was a gem but waited until he gave me the thumbs up to proceed.
Still looking... (by the way, the only contender I have in mind is a Maserati Coupe GT... ).
Pierre.
