So I saw a thread about a cat bypass pipe in the 964 Forum, but I was wondering what the pricing would be for a 993 one new/used, and if anyone here has one to sell.
What is required to remove the cat? I've never done any exhaust work, but we have a floor lift (the one that looks like an X) so I could lift the car pretty high in the air
I did my emissions test back in February, how often do I need to smog the car in CA?
Also, how much louder would it make the car, I want it to be loud during acceleration, but relatively quiet going through the neighborhood.

Smog in CA is every 2 years. Technically speaking a "Test Pipe" may be installed only for off road use.
I have heard that the CHP also operates random checks, although personally I have NEVER seen one.
I had a "test pipe" on my former 911, and I didn't really notice much increase in volume from before to after, that was a 3.0 motor. Would it make a difference on a 3.6, I don't know.

On a US '96 which is OBD2 compliant there are 2 pre and 2 post cat oxygen sensors, if you use a cat by pass you have to fool the post cat sensors that the cat is still in place. Some guys do this by tying them up in the engine compartment but not installed in the pipes themselves. For '95 and older that isn't an issue
Do your homework on this. There is evidence that by removing the cat, you will lose some mid-range torque without gaining anything. Do a search and real all of the posts in all of the threads.

i have seen no evidence of this on either of my cars.
On older cars w/o adaptive engine management that has been the case, for instance the MFI a and carbed cars are notorious for being finicky about exhaust. This is not the case w/ Motronic 2.0 or newer used in 964 up cars
I agree with this. Do everyone's lungs a favor and keep your cats, or get sport cats. On a 993TT, a cat bypass (along with a muffler bypass) is OBNOXIOUSLY loud. I'm not sure what it will sound like on a 993NA, or what mufflers you are using.
Ok, thanks for all the replies, I have stock mufflers and stock cats. I want a little more "bite" from the sound. How much do fisters stgII's run, is it better to buy new or used, I'm on a pretty tight budget since I'm going to school right now.
I would like to try to not annoy my neighbors TOO much, I think the Stage II's are a perfect balance, from what I've heard, if anyone is up for meeting up so I could hear them in person, I'd appreciate it, but from what I've heard, the stage II sound like what I'm looking for.
