Correct. But look at the banner at the top of the auction page:

The seller has lowered the reserve price. Bid now so you don't miss out.

Let the auction run. Ebay has come along way in protecting the seller if the seller knows how to set up their auction correctly.

Even if the two highest bidders flake only the seller knows that and he has a recorded high price to go back to the laundry list of non-ebay interested parties.

I've seen this before when buyers flake out after winning the bid. But I'm sure someone else will step up and buy it close to the winning bid.

To me the most interesting aspect of this auction is that the seller had the foresight to set the reserve as high as he did. One could [initially] argue that the seller never really wanted to sell the car and thus put a $100k+ reserve price just to "test" the market. Considering that the high water mark for "12k miles C2S's", as listed/sold by private parties was in the $55-65k range, no one could have predicted this response. Even factoring in the "paint to sample" and "RB factor," the predicted price would have been $70-80k. I agree 100% with Mr Sulllivan; use the next 3-4 days to negotiate a price and end the auction early. I believe Ebay allows you to do this prior to 24 hrs. of the auction's end. My prediction...$110k will buy the car.

$100k, I'm out! Seriously, that was my approved budget from the wifey and I think its worth it.
I'm not sure she would let me spend another dime, but who knows, can't hurt to ask.

She did let me offer $125k for the blood orange 993TT at TruSpeed. That one was listed at $140k and he wouldn't take less than $135k....
I loved that unique color combo, but with the Andial conversion I wasn't so sure that helped it or hurt it. Plus, he couldn't confirm if that was the only 1.

Awesome cars, crazy prices, I love it. Is it worth it? Hell yes to many, hell no to many. Same issue when I see a pink SuperBee going for $300k on Mecum Auctions.
I think "Who is the nutbag paying $300k for an pink SuperBee?". No way in hell for me.

Now for a RB C2S with cashmere interior, hell yes! A Speedster conversion from 9M for over $100k? Absolutely. A SpeedYellow RS at $250k, Yep, yep and yep. If I had the money, I wouldn't blink.

Not sure why so many are such party poopers on this car or any car setting new ceilings. Unique colors, models, have always demanded high dollar. No different here.

Very articulate post. The ususal hi end dealers would have easily listed that car for $70-80K, for the seller to put a six figure reserve on the car was pure genius. Yep, genius in hind sight...madness it would have been thought at auction beginning for most all others.

yep, auction must be ended a minimun 24 hours from the end. I'm sure that final sale fee's etc, must be fixed for items selling at this price point...but still gotta be a couple grand left on the table.

Couldn't have said it better myself! The reason for the six figure reserve is that's what I needed to pull off the other car, and if it didnt hit that I wasn't willing to sell this car, so it was more of an insurance policy. I had also been offered 90k from Rennlist members numerous times, so I figured 10k was close to that. Anyway it's where I need it to be, so if I get much more great and if not I have what I need to pull off the other car.

For $100k you can have a half of a genuine 9m speedster but you have to find another buyer for the second half of the car! :-)

Seriously : rare cars are expensive and time is on the owner's side. Just look at the 1972 S models, Rs, the 964 rs... the only problem is to realize the peak of the market. Only god knows the limits but once you've reached it you can go down dramatically ....

Would someone mind putting up some detailed pictures and a video for me? Any suggestions on a picture hosting site? eBay won't let me put any more pictures up. Thanks guys.
