Great pix and story. What have you done/deleted to get the weight to 2900?

Thank for the nice comments guys. I forgot to give some real world driving comparisons for reference.

Imagine

4th gear now pulling like 2nd used to.

5th gear pulls like 3rd used to...amazing.

As for weight reduction I'm a bit baffled myself. The entire A/C system all lines, etc was removed, front carpet jack spare tools, some carpet one rear passenger seat and sound insulation but that's about it. Looking forward to ditching the power seats next.

Sounds like it works perfectly and the logical way to get more useable power from the motor. Ditching the power seats is one of the easiest weight reducers by far ....

I'm at work in the fast paced big apple and just had a chance to take a peak at the forum. Thanks for making my week end with a smile. Awesome write up!

When Steve and Jeff did my alignment, my car was 2969. It's bone stock, lightly optioned, 17 inch rims, nothing removed. I don't know what some tools, a/c system, carpets and a rear passenger seat weigh, maybe those scales are just light!

Sounds like a heck of a trip. I'm going to make my first West coast swing next year - never been to California! The regear will squash any desire for more power (at least temporarily ) and you're right, the car should have been geared better from day one.

I see you are tempted by the 3.8 kit. I would suggest for the 4l kit since it has more bang for your buck. The old 4l kits were lousy but the new ones are supposedly good. Well Ill give you feedback after a year or two.

Smile Monthly Gift from Rennlist 993 Board

I get all crazed about a Rennlist 993 Board Post, about once a month. This is one of those times. We don't hear from Jordon that much, but when we do...LOOK OUT.

I was also good to see that Steve Weiner and Jeff Gamroth worked on the project with Jordon. Steve has done so much for the 993 Board over the year, nearly impossible to thank him for all the help he has provided.

Jeff Gamroth, incredible driver and one hell of a "wrench".

Default Weight to 2900?

My car is at 2900...here is what I did:
1. Tore out the stock carpets and sound insulation and replaced it with the 993 RS carpet kit. Mitch from Mitch's Stitches in San Luis Obispo did the job. Mitch also saw to it that any cashmere color anywhere was dyed black.
2. Replace the stock 993 door with 993RS door panels. At the same time, removed the stereo speakers in the doors and package shelf.
3. Removed the rear seats
4. Replaced the stock power seats with Recaros
5. Removed the stock cat and replaced it with Fabspeed 20 cell cats and X pipes with FD Motorsports Stage 1 mufflers. The car dynos at 253 HP with 78,000 miles on the motor.
6. Removed the heater blower motor in the engine compartment
7. Replaced the stock battery with an Optima Battery. Lance Aspesi did the electrical work for me. His shop is behind the Budweiser brewery near the Van Nuys airport. Lance is an electro mechanical genius, a 1 man shop. He can fix or repair anything.
8. Replaced that "weighty" tach with a RLCracing digital data logger
9. Replaced stock electrical rear spoiler with an Aero Kit 1B tail. This may, or may not have reduced any weight, but I like to think it did.
10- Removed the Big Reds and went back to stock brakes. Darin and I did a swap. I love the stock brakes. In some Club Racing circles (There is a pun there), there are potentially serious penalties when you change/upgrade brakes. The stock rotors and calipers are a little lighter.

And voila 2,900 Lbs, with a whisper of fuel and no driver. And note also, the car has a full Heigo bolt in cage, procured used from a Rennlister, of course.

If you really want to go over the top:
1. Remove the sun roof and associated motors,
2. Remove the power windows
3. Remove the cruise control
4. Remove the air conditioning
5. Get a carbon fiber hood
6. Carbon fiber doors
7. Carbon fiber front fenders.
8. Rip out the headliner and all upholstery in the car
9. Take out the cats, run something close to straight pipes
10. Lexan windshield
11. Thin 993 RS glass elsewhere
12. Dummy headlights
13. Light weight wheels

But now you have a full tilt race car, you need a 3.8 motor and associated goodies with a trick close ratio tranny...maybe an added oil cooler for the tranny. I'll bet a car with the above 13 incremental weight reduction mods would be close to 2,500 Lbs...but with the 3.8 motor and tranny, you will have spent over $100,000 to get here, but that's racing!

Or, import a 993 RS Club Sport as an off public roads vehicle. It will set you back about $150,000, and it will weigh about 2,850.

I am sure there are other options...this is what comes off the top of my head. I had better take my meds....
