Default RS top mounts with other suspension ?

Does anyone run the RS top mounts with PSS10 or KW or the like ?

I am trying to work out what to order but its difficult without seeing it all.

At the rear on pet illustration 502-01 it looks like I need parts 1 to 9 but saying that, 8 just looks like the big cylinder that the spring sits against and I already have one of those with my PSS10. There again, item 7 is a strange bellows ? and then there is a retainer spring 6. and these look like they arespecially made to fit into the concave washer 8. that the spring fits against ? The machine cylinder with my PSS10 is not solid and is basically a large ring so these parts would just fall through it I think ?

At the front on illustration 402-00 it looks as though i need parts 17-24 although I am not certain if i need 18 17 and 17 ? The top of my front PSS10's have just a washer and then the conical top hat so I don't quite see how this washer would just butt up against part number 17. ?

any help would be appreciated

I would have a look a the Rennline products, they come with dust covers etc, are beautifully made and give much more adjustment than the stock RS ones, and at the end of the day will be much cheaper.

I have the rennline ones and have used the mode ones (direct copy of the factory RS).. Both worked on my old PSS9's and my current KW clubsports

I used ERP monoball/camber plates they will work w/ Bilstein, Moton and JIC as they all have the same thread pattern on the top

Jakal2513:

Just curious if there is any reason why you would use the Porsche items? I went this way once myself. The exchange rate was much better but from hands on experience and racing use, I can tell you that they are no better than the two suggestions you got from trophy and Bill.

I am not trying to give you unsolicited advice and you should buy what you want.

Thanks,
Hank

Do you know exactly what parts you ordered. I could really use some help on this guys. I didnt start the thread to compile a list of who owns rs mounts or to be told to buy something else. I would be really grateful for some info on what parts i need to mate with pss10. Thanks.

You need 17-24 and 5 and 6 for the front and 1 through 11 for the rear.

Here is a newbie question. What is the advantage of replacing the top-mounts?

Smile Negative camber!!!

You can crank in some serious negative camber in the front with camber plates. There are many sources:
ERP (That's what I have )
Rennline
Tarrett Engineering
993RS
TRG

Now here is the tricky part. "Traditionally" with the 993, generally the rear wheels receive about -.5 less camber than the front. Le's say you dial in -3.25 front, then you would want -2.75 rear. Guess what, you can't get -2.75 rear without changing the camber links at about $450 a pair from ERP, distributed by Tarrett Engineering.

Martin,

That's a lot of negative camber. For most DOT R-compund tires you can back off of those numbers pretty significantly like 2.5 in the front and 2.0 at the rear and still have a great setup. When you move up to Hoosiers or slicks, I agree that more camber is more better!

Thank you very much. I am running Hoosiers R6's.
The Camber is currently -2.0 front and -2.5 in the rear.
Looks like I have it backward.... looks like back to the shop for a re-alignment and corner balance since I have lighted both the sprung and un-sprung weight since the last one.

just an update for anyone searching teh archives

if you are fitting RS top mounts with PSS10 then you do NOT need the part number 8 in the top diagram

the rear springs do NOT fit inside the RS top mount top hat as they are are a different diameter to porsche springs

I am not certain what other people did on this thread but you have to make a new top hat that will mate properly with the top mounts but also fit properly inside the bilstein spring. I imagine the same problem will surface with other coilovers as well so be on your guard if you are ordering RS top mounts for anything other than porsche springs.

rear bilstein PSS10 with its correct top hat

rear bilstein PSS10 with ill fitting 993RS top hat

RS, Bilstein, Mine

Newly fabricated custom top hat to work with RS top mounts. I had these made as exact replicas of the RS mounts pretty much but with the correct fitting collar for the spring.

Voila
