Hats off to you! My first 993 oil change was very similar to your experience. I was too embarrassed to step forward to share my experience on the forum. I now humbly take my 993s in for the oil change.

Thanks for the humorous write up.

You may want to re-read the instructions, I'm pretty sure it mentions choking the chicken - not sacrificing the rooster. Or do they mean the same thing? Either way I can't see how either will make your oil change go any faster... or cleaner.

We couldn't laugh if we haven't live through it ourselves... we did. Still funny. None of us had the guts to post it though, so now you know how we think, lol. Our embarrassing moment didin't happen, lol.

You do get better at it. Next time, if your experience is like mine, you'll only spill half the oil. After that, you'll get better. 13 oil changes later, you'll be down to a quart spilled or so.

I'm not sure you ever get to zero though. If you do, please let us know.

I've learned to do it at a friend's house. That way the cleanup is soooooo much easier. Heck, that way I can go ahead and bleed the clutch slave while I'm under there.

Those $200 oil changes seem like a great value after reading that!

Great writeup! Thanks for posting!

I must admit that 7 years into 993 ownership, I've yet to change my oil (I mean change it myself! Man that sounded wrong ... I don't want the Rennlist "Child Services" coming after me). Anyway, despite all the humorous (and not so humorous) horror stories, I still want to give this a shot at some point.

That is too damn funny.

I can pull the engine out of my 65 GTO and replace clutch quicker than I can change the oil in my 96 cab - and use less tools.

Great work!

Very funny having just finished my first change and feeling really bad about the 1/2 quart spilled. Changed oil on a lot of cars over the years. This one wins the prize. And for spark plugs.
