Anthony,

It depends on what you're are trying to analyze? FWIW we use Fluke and Tektronix spectrum analyzers at work and I really like them, but they're in the 3-10k range.

Using them to diagnose problems such as flywheel reference sensor, ignition signal, signals that come in waveforms.

Looking at the specs it should be able to perform those tests. Might be worth a shot for $70 shipped. I'd be curious to hear your findings if you do buy it.

Another thought, you could always find a amateur radio guy in your area who might be willing to lend you one.

I picked up a TEK 2445B from government surplus for under $300. It was hardly ever used and therefore in like-new condition.

That is your best bet. Check eBay for TEK oscilloscopes. Make sure it comes with probes as they can set you back a bit.

Hmm. I'd be interested in an update too. I went thru the same process (found an o-scope on craigslist for cheap) because I had a misfire. Turns out it was a waste of money.... my first problem was I set the fuel pressure too high; second problem I chose the wrong spark plugs, which had excessive gap. So my lesson was that when you think you need an o-scope, it's probably something much simpler.
