ipod connection for factory radio
I want to charge my iphone and run music when I drive
I installed an aftermarket alpine unit in my last 911 to do this but I want to run a porsche factory stereo in my 993. Is there a way for me to plug into the cd changer connection or even buy a newer porsche stereo that will let me do this.
I have an older alpine in the car now that is coming out and I do have the factory porsche radio as well cdr 210 I think is the #.

Ben,
I had similar goals to yours (basic iPod integration while keeping the stock head unit). Here is what I did:

Not strictly plug and play, but still pretty easy to wire up.

There's a CR-220 in the for sale section from a fellow 993er (JM993, IIRC). You can get a ipod connector that plugs into the aux jack in the back (i have that set up) and it charges, but the head unit does not act as a controller for the iPod (or iPhone).
Since his CDR-220 is out of a Boxster, it probably needs the modified face plate to work in the 993. For details, search CDR-220 in this forum and you will see this has been discussed many times.

This will work with the CDR 210. No affiliation.

I was going to add the unit to my car but since I got Fister Stage III I keep driving around with the windows down and a stupid grin on my face

[QUOTE=Mercedesben;8781155]I want to charge my iphone
Just to clarify OP is looking to work with his iphone. There is a difference between the older ipods and the newer iphones (3G onward) in how they charge etc.
Becker does sell a cable for connecting your iphone AND being able to charge it...best to call or email and go over the details first (generation of iphone, etc etc.)

The older cables will NOT work with the newer iPhones or iPod Touch at least not the 4G.
I have an iPod Classic that works great with my CDR-220 and Navone Engineering iPod Cable, that I got before the iPod Touch came out. My daughter's iPod Touch will not charge or play with the older cable in my car.
I can charge my iPod with my daughter's charger cable however. thus I think that the cables are backwards compatible.
I believe Navone Engineering has a cable that works with the newer iPhones/iPod Touch.

The Becker cable works with the iPhone 4, I just bought one two weeks ago. It does come up with a notice saying not compatible yada yada but still charges and plays music perfectly.

This is the reason why I went with an iPod/iPhone to RCA or 3.5mm adapter - you only deal with compatibility at one end of the cable.
It's a good tip anyway to choose your cable carefully for the device that you're trying to interface with. Make sure it is compatible with your device and the generation of your device.

Does anyone know of an adaptor that uses Bluetooth streaming, so you don't need a cable at all? The new aftermarket head units are starting to introduce it. It would be cool if there was an adaptor to integrate with the factory system
