I used to track my 993, and the best solution I found was to install a 2nd radiator, never had any problem after that...

Step #1 .... test for low speed fan operation ( simply pull the relay & jump #30 to 87 & 87c respectively): if the low speed cannot be heard, the resistor is dead.

If the low speed is functional, the 993 can manage a very high thermal load without ever triggering the high speed.

lots of info here. Ill mess around with these things and maybe get the switch installed! I dont think my low fan speed works (unless its so low its barely audible) because I only here the high speed of the fan.

I have had the resistor replaced, it almost completely crumbled upon removal to reveal a rusted coiled wire. Replacing this fixed the same problem you have immediately. It's cheap and fairly simple to have done, I'd start here.

Just unplugged my resistor behind the passenger light. The fan came on louder than I have ever heard! Will this cause the oil to warm up slower than normal, and are there any bad side effects from just letting the fan run on high all the time?

Leaving the fan on full may not be good for the fan motor. It actually won't slow the initail warming of the oil as the thermostat remains shut until the engine warms the oil to where the needle hits the second marker on the gauge, only then it opens feeding the oil to the cooler at the front.

Mine's run on high for four years with no ill effects. On cooler days you might notice the thermostat between engine and oil cooler opening and closing periodically (you can see the temp gauge dip quickly when it opens) but essentially all you've done is increase the efficiency of the oil cooler. It's loud at the fender but not audible in the car.

Great I can't wait to see where the guage is next time I drive. The car seems to run a little hot lately especially if I run into traffic. Thanks!
