Default Anybody know this car? LA/Torrance area.

http://www.platinumautohaus.com/web/...20New%20Clutch

VIN: WPOAA2991SS323561
Carfax: http://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory...AA2991SS323561

Platinum Autohaus
Phone: 888-716-6707 Fax: 310-318-1160
Address: 610 N. Pacific Coast Highway Redondo Beach, California 90277

Tony, the owner, said he bought it from a high-end auction. Car has a new clutch, unfortunately no service history whatsoever, and carfax warns of an odometer rollback.

First of all, welcome to Rennlist!

I dunno the car, but that price, with an odometer rollback, is a joke. You could find a no stories NB 993 in the same condition for less. I'd give it a pass.

Here's some solid advice: whatever 993 you choose, make sure to get a PPI from an independent garage that KNOWS air-cooled Porsches before you purchase.

If you pony up the $17 to become a member, you can look at the classifieds. The best 993 you could probably buy would be from a fellow Rennlister; they tend to take VERY good care of their 993s and have usually have no stories.

Best of luck. The search is half the fun.

Couldn't that just be a 'clerical' error. Someone with fat fingers hitting the 2 instead of the 1. Hopefully there are some service records from 1998 that corroborate the lower mileage. Seems like a nice car although the rims are not doing it any favors.

GT2 front splitters, 993 RS tail..both probably aftermarket. But that's OK if that's what you want. BUT the deal killer for me is below:

This Odometer Rollback
Inconsistent odometer reading indicated.

RED FLAG

Some many other private part 993 cars available, IMHO, of course.

There is a beautiful Arena Red Carrera 4 S for sale at Smith Volvo in San Luis Obispo, unmolested too! No affiliation!

goofballdeluxe: I will thoughtfully consider, autotrader/craigslist isn't the ideal place to be looking for 993's.

Thanks, I'll give it a look Martin S.

CorrdoBrit/Martin S.: I called the nearest Porsche dealership and was told the last time that car was in for service was on 11/28/2007 with 39,857. I'd be hard pressed to believe that in 4 years only a few hundred miles were put on it. (It sits with 40,394k on the clock.)

Don't think I'll be wasting time to take it to Callas Rennsport/Dutch Treat to have a tech look to see if fraudulent rollback has taken place.
Wish I could track down the previous owner though,

Welcome,

If you really want the car go and take it to Tony Callas or Otto's and have them do a PPI. No PPI tell em to pound sand.

I would listen to what they say about the car and the possible issues.

Dealerships have a harder time keeping mechanics who have the experience with 15 to 20 year old air cooled cars.

Hope this helps.
