Swap trans or just rebuild?
I have a regeared trans in my cab. Assuming I found a coupe that didn't have the regearing, would it be cheaper to take both cars to the wrench to have the trannies swapped, then sell the cab with the std trans, or just sell the cab as is and regear the trans on the coupe?

Sure it makes sense to swap. If the gearing is right for where you run. I'm sure you've got a feel for where it is now, but in a more dedicated car.......maybe things change. As I said in the other thread, what's great for Sears and Thunderhill is abysmal for Laguna. I'm no quicker with the much modified 993 than I was with the RSA near totally stock racer. Always in a "2nd is too short, 3rd is too tall" situation. And I dare not buzz the 3.8 versus beating the hell out of a stock 3.6.

Swap. Just did this swap in the spring under $1000.00
A rebuild and shorter gears, steel syncros bearings etc... > $5000.00
Just wondering if you were at the Glen in June, was a guy there that could really move in a 993 cab
Cheers,
Geoff

Let's put it this way.......You may recall that I was second in line behind you to buy your cab. The only reason I wanted it was to swap the transmission in my coupe.

^^Ah...that was you. I do really love the cab. Tom did some really nice mods that aren't over the top but give it some extra fun per mile, as well as making it more aesthetically pleasing to my taste. I'm HATING the thought of getting out of a cab (had a 993 cab since 2002), and now especially this one. The tranny is one of the things that I'd hate to see go. Looks like I'll be keeping it.

Yes, it was the Zone 1 event from June 17-19. Was my first time at the Glen, nice track.
Along with passing me on the track, you also pasted me on the way home while towing
As far as a DIY tranny swap for a grand, no DIY except for handing over my visa. It's not a big job,
swapped one out and added the RS clutch/flywheel to the new re geared box and they put it in.
Gave them cash, that easy
Cheers,
Geoff

Perhaps a cheapo Boxster (in addition to a 993 coupe) could satisfy your cab needs.
