Default My Tire Transport Solution

Thought I would post a few pictures of my new setup here...this was my alternative to a trailer setup. Madden voyage down to ORP and back (400 miles) with no issues. Over horrible roads and speeds up to 70mph it held well. Used some electrical tape to protect the new paint and had no issues there but you can definitely feel the increased drag as you drive! You also get a lot of funny looks and thumbs up.

That's great! A buddy of mine did almost the same thing with three tires standing vertical on the roof rack and the fourth in the passenger seat.
I can't read the label in the picture, who makes the gutter mounts? The framing part looks custom.
Thanks for sharing.

Towers are Yakima and Rack is just welded up steel bars.

Big ***** and a little member...always been my curse Whole setup is 210 lbs. I thought about putting one of the 40 lbs wheels in the front seat but said screw it. On bumps the windshield creeks like it does if your taking a driveway curb on an angle. Other than that all was well, no marks or indents where the towers rest. I imagine over some of the bumps and dips in the road that 210 lbs must have pushed down onto the roof with some serious force. If I wasn't fully loaded I'd have preferred to put a wheel in the cab to be 5 lbs over spec.

Dan, you can fit them all inside.

I wouldn't worry much about the weight, unless you start to go down bumpy roads, the weight is more on the sides (where it's stronger) then the center.

I love it! Great work fitting them all. Could you get one under the hood out of curiosity?

Wait...were you cruising down 78th near Hwy 99 on Friday morning? I think I saw you. Grew up out there and visiting family. My wife commented that I probably wanted to stalk you and find out how you did all that (if that was indeed you).

Awesome.

I've seen pics of a few roof-rack equipped 993s on here lately. I have a strange desire to mount one myself for the beer-keg run.

All 4 are in the car, but nothing else can fit.

Tim, you would have to to drive them first.

I was thinking a wax job might get him there?

Considering how many 911's I've seen get rolled on their roofs at the track and not crush the occupants, I think Porsche's weight limit is very conservative.

Nice work Dan. Did you fab it up or have someone do the welding?

What's up Garrison! I can always count on you lurking in the 993 board. You need to bite the bullet and get one!

This rack is homemade by my pops. After seeing some of these other designs for the first time I'm proud of the German simplicity he whipped up.

You have to get out to WA for a track day this year, we can just share my car. I'm getting after it this year, I have 7 events under my belt with a lot more coming up. (Laguna Seca in Sept as well) I'll shoot you an email on that.
