Default Air Duct for Engine Cooling Fan Question

Hello,

I was cleaning up my engine compartment today and notices that I have a crack in my air duct. I searched here and it seems to be a fairly common problem and pretty easy fix. My question is should I not drive the car until I get the part replaced? Will I do any damage?

Thanks,

Chris

I drove it like that for a couple of weeks until I got the part, nothing wrong with it.

I don't believe driving it until you can get it replaced will cause any damage. This is an easy DIY replacement.

Easy DIY but there are (2) different parts, one for non-varioram and one for varioram. The one w/o varioram has a 964 part # IIRC. A search should help you find the correct part #. I had this issue and put some duct tape over the hole until the part arrived.

Yes, there are two versions of air duct but you best verify the one on your car before you order a replacement. I just replaced one on my 1995 non-varioram C2 and it took the 993 version.

Hello. Thanks for all the replies. I ordered it from Suncoast and I ordered the non varioram version. From the search I did here it seems that early builds like mine use this one. Please let me know if I'm wrong.

Thanks again,

Chris

It's a 1995 and it does not have varioram.

Thanks,

Chris

The air duct part number has nothing to do with vario ram.

It has to do with the fresh air intake grid on the left side of the engine bay. IIRC this was added around june-94 production date (still MY 95 cars). If your car has a fresh air intake you need the 993 number, no intake uses 964 part #.

Too answer your original question I would tape over the tear if you need to drive it.

I've had 2 95s and they both cracked. Both used different parts. I got it wrong the second time around. Suggest you check with Sunset.

To make sure I ordered the correct duct, I removed the broken one and checked the part number on it.

One of the bolts is difficult to insert and tighten - had to hunt for it when it fell into the engine bay.
