Default Need Help NOW please: DME...RESOLVED...TY

Car wont start!

The lights go on. I here the engine turning or cranking but not catching....any ideas?

I believe DME problem, i wouldnt get any cranking....maybe the battery is weak???

Is there a proper way to administer a boost on a 993 so I dont damage anything?
It would be AAA....

Thanks,
sam

Are you getting strong cranking?

Bad DME relay will act like your car is out of gas. Everything powers up fine, engine cranks, but fuel pump doesn't come on so no fuel is being pumped. Is that what you're having?

it feels strong for the 1st second, and then just clicks...most likely the battery. Just want to make sure its not another 993 quirk before I attempt a boost!

sounds like that....but I have no idea if I am getting gaz or not....
Thing is it happened 2 weeks ago, then 15 minutes later...it started up. I am guessing, if the DNE is dead, it wouldnt have started up again....

Check the batery charge first and then replace the DME.

Sounds like battery is draining/near dead. But it also sounds like it was killed by non-start most likely caused by DME.

Check battery voltage before starting and after you've cranked it a bit and see how fast it recovers...instantly I hope. An on-board voltmeter would tell you that.

Load test the battery.

Battery terminals clean? Terminal at the starter clean?

dme failure can be intermittent.

You guys are the best.....I tried a boost, with no luck!
Then swapped the DME and voila....started up in no time.

If it wasnt for this board I would not even have known to carry a spare DME relay....

That is a great idea, especially for these old cars that are phinicky!

I sold lots of them when I worked at VW a long time ago. Those were FI relays.

+1 for a Voltmeter.

Alex's example inspired me to install one under the dash.
Great way to determine condition of battery and alternator.

Also, clean battery posts with some dielectric grease or Vaseline are a must.
