Thanks guys. The car seems to get way more attention than the 993 ever did. Its ok unless you are in a hurray at the gas station. The gaps aren't bad but one hinge needs some work and some adjustments are in order. It doesn't look like its ever been in an accident. The hood has been kinked and got the typical repair of the era. Its all part of the character. I might go broke if I ever decide to restore it because everything has wear and tear.

very cool & congrats on the purchase. a few years back my father-in-law bought a 63 Super 90 sunroof coupe in Santa Barbara (we went to look at a 48 Bentley) and after a few days at Schnieder's Auto Haus, we made it to KC w/no problems. I'll never forget that trip

Yeah I almost bought some original wheels before I picked it up and looked at some Technomagnesios ($3000!). I may just dechrome the 5 1/2s and go with no hubcaps.

Very nice Matt!
As others have said, I love the patina too.
It's funny, I wonder how many of us will be around in 2051 looking at driveable unrestored 993's? I hope I'll still be able to see (eat, pee, etc.)
A bit of perspective makes some of these old cars all the more special.
I saw a beautiful (original, rough) Jag e-type with checked silver paint at a recent vintage race - drool...
Congrats, and all the best!

We had Techomagnesio's on the '58. They are very cool and $$$..... I loved them so much, I'd lay down next to them. <wink>

Congratulations!! You never know what you're getting into on a 356 until the body has been stripped down to bare metal. There are quite a few 356s driving around here in the Pacific Northwest and shops that work on the mechanics as well as complete restorations.

Matt,
Congrats and enjoy! Now you will find a completely "new/old" experience... and what a great way to start... I still miss my 1958 356 Cab (gone 3 years now), and it's great to have another 356 in town too!
I chaired the 356 Registry West coast Holiday in 2005, here in Banff, we had 75 Porsche 356 models on display in front , on the lawn of the Fairmount Hotel, 3 guys drove their Porsches from New Hampshire!!!
these cars are so solid, and at 70 mph, like you did, they're still kind of idling along.
Hope to meet some time... we had a 1957 Speedster ( a real one), on saturday at the European Car show, Stanly park, Calgary Alberta.
Air-cooled Regards,
Bert Leemburg

Matt,
I am totally jealous; what a wonderful looking car!
I know our next Porsche is going to be an old one, but I cannot decided between a 356 or a long hood...
