I echo the comments about praise to Ben for taking on this PITA situation.

My bottom line is that I want an all-OEM set that works for a 96 car and is complete. If we can get to that at a reasonable price, I am very interested. But not if I have to go piecing things together or worry about problems with the parts, etc. I love a great deal like anyone, but the frustration/time of anything other than a smooth installation has a price, at least for me...

thanks again Ben for trying to put together

Thanks everyone. Just let me know. At 1438 for the total package (everything new except the ballast/control units) I am going to go ahead and do this regardless.

I'll let everyone know how many control units I can procure. The headlights will come (new) from the ebay seller, the ballasts/control units (used) from another ebayer, and all the other bits (new) from Sunset. Doesn't seem like too many steps. Both Ebayers have high feedback so I'm not too worried about them.

I'm still in it for $1438 complete package. How do I/we go ahead with the purchase?

Morning.

I've kind of lost count of who is in right now.

Seller of the headlight units understands these are hard to put together, so might come down a bit more. The seller of the ballasts/control units has 3 complete sets right now.

I already ordered the rest of the install kit from Sunset. Cost me $186.

Where exactly do the ignitor units mount or are they part of the headlight assembly?

The pair/set for sale on http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-GENUINE-PORSCHE-993-XENON-LITRONIC-HEAD-LIGHT-UNITS-/360360064099?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53e7223463 include the ignitors and bulbs.

I also noted where they are made; same as the lenses I recently bought that have an air bubble in one of the lenses.

They are part of the assembly. They 'ignite' the bulbs.

The control units are made by Bosch and are part # 1 307 329 011 572 12 0072

I believe this unit was not only used on the 993 but on other German cars (BMW/Mercedes) of that era. Looking into interchangeability.

The balast are not part of the assembly. They in the trunk under the carpet left and rigth behind the headligths. The balasts are easy interchangable and they were used in many german cars and even other Porsche like Boxter and the first years in the 996 at that time. That is also the reason why you can get them so much cheaper in the market than the Porsche-sparepart-mond-price.

I meant the ignitors.

Anyway, is this thread dead?

Default RHD vs LHD?

Are the headlights listed on ebay OK for RHD cars? (i'm thinking of light patterns, sheilding etc)

Thank you in advance!

No. The light will be directed by the lenses towards the oncoming traffic.

Are there any other parts needed to install other that what is mentioned is the install schematic?
I see the ballast is included, what about wiring harness?
Keep me posted, I just might be swayed......
