Default A/C Trouble Fixed..Thanks FDM!

So my boys at FD Motorsports never fail to impress. Figured my on again off again A/C compressor fan was the resistor so I ordered two on Wednesday and they showep up today! Along with something to read after the job is done.......

So it is a wonder my A/C worked at all since the resistor came out in 3 pieces!

A very simple job turned into great frustration due to the location of these things. I hope they last another 16 years!

Exactly...I ended up hammering out the old ac resistor. When I did mine last year I relocated both to where they can be accessed via the headlight cavity. I cannibalized the old resistor and used the wires to lengthen the ac side. Relocation of oil cooler side was no problem as seen below.

Does a DIY exist on this one as my fan hasn't worked in months and my A/C is struggling!

I didn't relocate and I figure in 16 years the car may be apart for a repaint or sumpin!

Just got back from a test run and everything is working great. Not sure how the A/C even functioned with that thing in such bad shape.

If the ballast resistor is dead the CCU will run the fan intermittently on high to compensate for the missing cooling.
Cheers,

Tore, while you are here, I have a question.

My A/C is pretty weak. I've set the A/C condenser fan on full high speed by shorting the relay under the good. It's still pretty weak. Any thoughts? If next step is checking the R134A pressure in the system, what should that be? I remember that low side should be something very low, like 15-20 PSI?

Also, what's the easiest way to check the resistor itself? I'm sure it's dead, but am curious where a convenient point is to check resistance without getting into connector under the fender lining.

Sorry, can't answer your questions, my expertise lies in electronics, not on cooling systems. All these figures are given in the big AC thread linked on my web page.
If your fan runs on high only your resistors are shot, no doubt. I changed both of them in an hour, fairly easy job. There may be a possibilty to measure the resistor at the relay socket connector, but I would not bother.
Cheers
Tore

Tore, I've replaced the oil side as it was definitely dead. Will replace the driver's side too. Just bypassed it to run constantly at high speed for now.

I still have not figured out if A/C weakness is related to odd heat behavior. Have to still check the servos in footwells, etc.
