Default 993 vs 996 Conundrum Solved

Well my various questions regarding the differences between a 993 and 996 have finally been answered. I drove to Dallas in my 2005 996 Targa several days ago to look at a 993 Coupe. Gave the car a so-so cursiory inspection and then climbed in and fired her up. After a loooong block and a half I was thinking "this is pretty neat! I need one of these." Only one word; WOW!

Very different car. My 996 was a very nice car. It was comfortable, quiet, drove nicely, everything worked, etc. However it never felt like there was a direct connection. Every imput and response seemed slightly veiled for lack of a better word. The 993 is a direct more linear experience. Every imput is met with a direct response. I can only describe the feel as more intimate. The 996 is a nice ride; the 993 is a great drive.

I got up on LBJ Fwy Friday afternoon to return to Midland. I had not gone a mile when I saw the running lights of a 997 weaving through traffic at a high closing rate. He pulled up next to me, rolled down a window, and shouted "Great Car." Never had that happen in the 996. A red 993 attracts a lot of smiles and questions.

I anticipate a long relationship. Hopefully the photo will load so you know it really happened.

Max

Nice! So did you trade in the 996 or do you have both?

Next step is a suspension upgrade and new control arm bushings. Then you'll really be impressed.

I thought 2005 was the first year for 997's?

Great choice!

How many other cars are out there where someone would gladly trade their newer model for an older one?
