Embarrassed, but still learning about these cars...
what is the clear tube coming from the inside of my left front fender? Its up toward the front left headlight, runs out of the fender wall into the front trunk compartment. Curious. Learning. Thanks

Yep, vent tube for the battery for sure! I wondered the same thing last year when I found that thing!

My car is at the paint shop now or I would go check but doesn't the battery vent tube go into the spare tire well and vent in a hole in the well, or was that on my '88 911?

there is a little black plastic thing on the end of it, and that end is just hanging in the trunk, not attached to anything. is it supposed to be attached to something? the other end goes into the fender. clear tube. would make sense that it is some kind of vent tube, but also seems like it should be attached to something?
thanks for the advice

I doubt you have the original battery in your car...and consequently the 'vent' tube doesn't align with the replacement battery.
At least that is the conclusion I came to after removing the battery to clean and treat the area where it sits.

Ahhh. I guess that makes sense. No, of course it is not the original battery
So, pretty much it is useless?
thanks again, this place is great, the knowledge power is humbling...

JT, it is only useless if you have a gel battery like an Optima. If you have a normal battery, you need to connect the vent. You don't want that acid vapor floating around in your trunk.

Adapter
If the black connector at the end of the hose does not reach or fit into the new battery, there is an adapter kit that normally comes with the battery to connect the hose. As I recall, on the Interstate batteries, the opening for the hose is on the middle of the battery on the top section.
