No affiliation with the seller, but I just ordered one from the seller. I'ml waiting on the delivery. When it arrive (in a week or two) I can post a photo of the boot if you like.
Yeah, that's one of them. I found it while searching for something better looking that the stock one to replace it with. I'm thinking about going with a Rothsport.
I actually made my own and it was pretty easy. Ordered some goat skin leather from Tandy Leather Company (small piece) and took the old boot apart. I simply traced the pattern on the leather - cut it out and turned it inside out to sew it. Looks awesome and its very soft leather which is what you want on the shifter. Whole thing cost me around $35 with leather, needles, and wax thread.
Silly question - I have the aluminium factory option shifter. My boot is a bit ratty at the base of the console, and frankly, is made of some pretty cheap leather.
Is the boot replaceable on this particular shifter? If so, any ideas/instructions on how to remove it for replacement?
TopGaiters (eBay seller) is fairly universally liked for its quality by Miata people. Especially given their prices. I'd be curious to see what exactly is received when their boot is ordered. Will it have the mushroom top and how one would stick the shift **** in there?
The reason I'm interested is for the upcoming round shift **** project for 993. Bugs, let us know and send some pictures when it shows up, eh?
Got the leather boot this Sat. I've made the order on the 16th June, so that's pretty quick (about a week to delivered to HK). Here's what you would expect,
From the photos you can see, the leather boot is without the "mushroom" shifter ****. It does come with the metal retaining strap at the bottom. It is a very simple design, literally two pieces of leather sewn together in the middle and glued at the bottom. Pls don't expect any french stitching All in all, for $35, it satisfied my expectation. But I have to point out that I have yet test fitted it to the car so I can't comment on the fit.
