996 or not, still a shame
Matt Hardigree - Porsche 911 decided to die (and take much of the cooling system along with it in some kind of powertrain suicide pact), the owner considered the $20,000 repair job and instead decided to donate the car to a non-profit. A non-profit dedicated to protecting gun rights. Let's find out what happens when you pump a car with 10,000 rounds of hot lead.
Who hasn't wanted to take a few shots at a 911, even an older model, after years of dealing with Porsche drivers? They probably owe us one. So rather than spend more on the car than it was worth, it was nice of this particular owner to donate it to charity.
In this case, the charity is Commonwealth Second Amendment (Comm2A), a group dedicated to "bringing some sanity to Massachusetts gun laws."
They're also dedicated to schadenfreude as they parked the car in a fake "no parking" spot so America can finally exercise its anti-asshat driver desires.

Disgusting.

What's the true shame is how the 996's blow up on a regular basis. I do agree that shooting the crap out of it was probably uncalled for, but the owner may have been able to write off the whole value of the car as a charitable donation. Anyway, sad to see.

There's also that dude that crushed one as "art" (lame, not creative). There's a thread on that, too.
Then of course there's Clarkson, the mayor of Haterville: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No0xDPFoMq8

If you note, the camper explodes as the 911 barely touches it....so prewired to blow. Now I'd would have liked (given that he's hell bent on destroying it, not because its the right thing to do) to see if the 911 was drivable AFTER the drop! Clarkson wasn't ready to have that happen, so he cheated the Porsche out of a potentialy complete win...
I wonder if the Hamster always seems to pick a 911 just to **** off Clarkson...

That's just part of Clarkson's "schtick" (Yiddish slang meaning "gimmick" that has come to mean "someone's signature behavior." ) He actually compliments Porsche while he acts like he's trying to put them down. It's all for entertainment...he's an entertainer. He does it for publicity and to create reaction (like what is happening here) among the legion of Porsche fans.

(he starts off slagging the car, but later praises it)
