Default How many Riviera blue 993s?

A competitor of mine owns a Riviera blue coupe that she's bought brand new via European delivery back in 95. Great clean car with softback sport seats. As I was seating in it a couple of weeks ago, the owner, Judy, mentioned that there were only 26 of Riviera blue 993s imported into the States. Jay Gratton today mentioned that half of them were cabs.

Now, that is an astonishingly low number. I like Riviera. Nay, I really like Riviera. I look for them and see at least 4-5 here on Rennlist. Can anyone confirm that the number of imported Rivieras is that low? And, in turn, does anyone have a breakdown of cars imported here by color?

I think I might get my Riviera fix with a Mariner Blue Miata, which is closer to Mexico Blue, but whatever. A track car that I can afford. Looking forward to driving a slow car fast again. Used to have a red '90:

I believe it was 10 cabs, not 13. Also, I think it was 26 in '95, not '95-98.

I heard what Matt said as far as numbers are concerned. My only addition is that Rivi Blue was offered as a standard color in 95 only and was not an upcharge color. Any year past that Rivi Blue would have been paint to sample. No concrete evidence of this, but I have heard it more than once. AFAIK there are only 2 95 cabs here on R-List in Rivi Blue, mine and Briefescapes. GYMGUY just bought an "S" version in Rivi Blue, but IIRC it was a paint to sample car.

Is there a way to definitively resolve this question? I’m asking because I’d actually like to know. I mean, can PCNA provide this data….or better yet, WILL they provide this data? Is there something like a customer service 800 number that someone could call? E-Mail?

It is my understanding that PCNA does not have access or will not provide build numbers.

So, where do these production (or import) numbers come from? How does one know that only 26 Riviera Blue 993's were imported?

No affiliation. Just an FYI. One 1995 RB Coupe and one 1995 RB cab:

Both cars have been FS a long time and also discussed on RL previously. The Coupe has some stories associated with it that's probably putting buyers off ie TMU and salvage title.

Mike, I have heard numerous time that Riviera Blue was paint to sample color in '96-98 and sales brochures seem to concur with that - no Riv is mentioned in '96-98, while it is an available exterior color in '95 brochure.

Now, the number still seem awfully low. Let's see what's here right under our noses: Mike's cab, Bill's coupe, Mark's (now Darin's wife's) cab, a cab (or coupe?), in Calgary, a coupe (Judy's) in NH and I'm sure I'm forgetting at least 2-3 more. Plus there's consistently 2-3 on sale. I mean, that accounts for 30-50% of all Riviera cars, no?

Chuck, I love the smurf color on a Miata. My own autocross appliance is red and Miatas came in mostly boring colors, but Mariner and later Yellow and Copper were nice. I can't believe that Mazda did not come up with a bunch of jelly bean bright colors for Miata over the 20+ years of production. The only issue is that Mariner cars are all 1.6 if I'm not mistaken. And, oh, I'm surely trying to drive a slow car fast. For the last 12 seasons or so.

Not many because
no one either wanted it
or had the ***** to order it.
arena red and yellow were pretty popular "outside the norm" new color options and silver came on very strong after the post 1980s hangover of guards red

I do really like the color(riv blue), just like everyone else.
But back in 95-96, I think I was dreaming of a guards red or speed yellow 993 IIRC - can't really remember how I felt about riv blue, but do remember it as an option from the famous commercial.

Probably a whole lot a truth in that statement. It even rings true today, unless you are in the know the color may be a put off. Silver, IMHO, is the most popular color. Everywhere I go people comment on the Rivi Blue. Most like it and some say they like it, but would never order one that color. I feel the same about the common colors. I like them, but I would not want what everyone else has. I had a Paint to Sample Ferrari Fly Yellow 95 cab that was a great color as well.
