A go-cart is very basic with minimal comfort items. The Hyundai has far more advanced systems, is much faster, safer, more comfortable and generally quite a few technological levels ahead/above the go cart. A new Hyundai is roughly twice the cost of a high quality used go-cart...hence my analogy. Comparing a go-cart to a Rolls Royce would not have been as accurate....besides, have you seen a new Hyundai? They are actually really nice cars these days.

The 993 is better looking (subjective), better made, uses better materials, have a more visceral (go cart like) ride and has a high re-sale value.

Like I said, I like the 997 and would buy one in a second over a 993 for a daily driver. If I had wanted to insult a water cooled Porsche I would have chosen the 996 which is a giant pile of plastic shiit.

P.S. - I would also buy a Hyundai too.

Hmm, while I agree that new hyundais are quite nice cars, I can't say i've seen the comparison made in a positive manner.

that said, you could say that a 997 is more like every other modern car. They all have more technology, hp, safety, etc etc.

How does the 993 use better materials btw? There is a fair bit of cheap plastic in my car...basically the entire center console for that matter.

They may lack some of the 993's "Old School" charm, but the 997 is a fantastic car. Drive one hard and you will see...acceleration, handling, braking...really in a different league than the 993.

You should drive both and see which one grabs you.
I don't see myself parting with my 993, but adding a 997 would be great!

The leather is the 993 is incredible - you don't see that quality anymore. Many of the fittings are brass vs. the plastic fittings you see in newer cars. The comparison that jumps into my mind is the old rotary dial phones from Ma Bell vs. the new plastic ones. The new ones have far better performance but the old phones were built to last forever.

Perhaps the Hyundai comparison makes more sense in that I compared it to a go cart, not to another car. It was the first inexpensive car that jumped into my mind. I guess that means I think of it based on its old image as well....even though many people would be hard pressed to tell it was a Hyundai based on sitting in one. The new ones are really nice...especially considering the price.

This has been posted here before. I too was torn between a new 997 and 993 but myself being shallow, ended up with the better looking car

Right. I posted this picture when the 997 first came out...

Question of taste, but I just prefer the 993's rear end...

I am hearing a lot of good things about the 993. Why should I buy it instead of a 997?
I smell a trap...

1) I think Karen is actually from some superior alien culture that is running an cruel experiment on the car-obsessed
2) If you want to see some world-class bickering check out the thread on the 997 forum (link on Mike's comment)

Karen,

Girl, I can't see you in anything other than a 997. Seriously, drive one - you'll love it! And, nice cup holders, Nav in dash, better A/C, comfortable seats, sick power.

I'm not in love with the looks as much as the 993, but everything is newer and it may be more reliable for you.

What are you leaning towards? What color combo do you want? We live for this sh*t!

I really loved/love my 993 and I think it was also a good looking one but I would never go back now that I tasted a bit of the new technology.

The engine, sound, handling etc.. is just in another league with the 997 but the 993 will always be a special car.
