993 vs 997

Karen,
The 997 pampers your body.
The 993 pampers your soul.
See if you can find one to drive. Take a 25 mph corner (hopefully on a nice country road) at 45 mph in second gear. You will understand.

Only 45 CP?
Seriously though, these guys are all telling you how it is Karen.
There's just something stirring about the old school 911's. I have driven a 997 and it was a fine car for sure. VERY nice, but it wasn't for me.
One of each would be nice

The 993 is very well built/engineered.
The 993 is a driving experience.
The 993 is a classic in a modern package.
Just look at the small cockpit and simple dash. Or the tight doors with the tiny a-pillars.
The 993 is a 911. Beautiful hips, size and refinement.
Having a 997 which i enjoy for both road and track because it excels in that department, i still just cannot keep my eyes off 993s when i see them.
You need to get a drive in one to understand.
This is why the resale is so strong on the 993.

Both great cars, the 997 better objectively, but not necessarily subjectively. More electronics, more horsepower, more gadgets does not necessarily mean better for everybody.
A friend of mine has a 1965 Alfa Romeo Gulia GT with 115 hp at 6000 revs, but I find it has lots of charisma and is fun to drive, and love the interior... more so than the newer Alfa models...

Karen, go for a 997 cab, I think is the right car for what you are looking for
The 993 is a 911 for the Porsche enthusiast
The 997 is a GT like many on the market just with Porsche enbleme
Giorgio, wo loves driving his 993 Turbo WLS II on the German autobahn

I couldn't disagree more. Granted the 993 does not have the creature comforts of the 997, mainly cup holders & navigation and sound deadening, i find my 993 MUCH more drivable than a 997. To say a 993 fells like 100 at 60 is way over the top. My car is relatively lite compared to a 97, but not compared to a 87 911 or even less than an early 60's or 70's. I guess if you want a luxury car, a 997 is OK. If you want a rawer feel, go earlier.

I thought I read this on this thread, evidently not. But this is really poignant observation (I did not come up with this, just reporting what I remember reading):
If you have never owned/driven an air-cooled 911, then the 997 is perfectly fine.
If you did, then there is nothing better than the 993.
