I think my issue dissipated by itself. I wasn't driving the car in really cold weather this past winter, but it was fine enough in November and December in Boston that I've totally forgotten about this thread.

Regarding A/C - I've added two cans of 134A to mine and it's very passable at this point. I'm sure that most of these cars have slow leaks in the evaporator vicinity. But if I'm faced with $30 of R134A per season vs. replacing evaporator... you know what's not gonna happen.
