Default CDR-220 faceplate mod DIY?

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knew what exactly Becker does to the HU faceplate to modify them for 993 use? The reason why I'm asking is that unfortunately Becker Europe doesn't offer similar service for the Euro version (CDR-22).

From what I understand they replace the LED screen with one that will be difficult to see from the driver's point of view in a 993 (green letters on black) to an LED screen from some Ferrari head unit (black letters on orange). Worked quite well for me.
If would imagine Becker USA would deal directly with you, or if not them, try SW. They were very helpful getting me a cable and adapter I needed. (swstereo.com)
If all else fails and you need someone in the US to work with Becker USA on your behalf, let me know.

Becker is now doing mods on the faceplate's so that they retain their original looks (black background with orange digits) to match the original look.

I'm actually looking into this!

The orange/black black/orange is basically the way the polarization film is applied to the front & back of the lcd screen. That's the way these work.

I took apart my faceplate from instructions found on the web . Then still browsing regarding this topic I found info on a BMW site regarding removal of the film. http://forum.roadfly.com/threads/122...dianapolis-mod

I've order some polarized linear film (still waiting for it) to replace the one i removed. I did clean a part of film i removed and tried rotating & reversing it. Either i can't see the writting, either it's black/orange or orange/black.

BTW the orange color comes from the diffusor between the backlight leds and the lcd screen.

Will report back as i progress

The description makes sense and doesn't look like too hard task to accomplish. Dibs if you find yourself with any leftover film after the modification!

I tried this - -bought the film and played around-- slight improvement but not very good.
