Every time i drive I worry about a belt blowing out, a dme relay failing, a valve lifter getting stuck (happened once), my clutch slave cylinder failing (its starting to go), my door check strap pulling out of my door, hitting a bump too hard with my pss10's and starting an annoying creak in my windshield, and rain (i'm in Vancouver) which may eventually cause rust at the windshield.

they worry way to much.
just DRIVE.
when things break, replace and drive more.
my 7 never rust. it barely stops. 24000/year.

Just my opinion but here goes. After four different 911s ( see sig.) I bought a new 09 997 C2S Cab with PDK and a bunch of other modern stuff. It was a great car, fast as hell, but after the fast part got old I realized it wasn't as much fun as my old 993. So I just spent way more money for a 993 than I sold my old one for, and then spent a bunch more money to make it just right and I couldn't be more pleased. Every time I drive the car I am reminded what brought me to Porsche in the first place. It's like the perfect dance partner for life....Cheers.....Chris

80,000 km on my 06 997 and other than some little annoyances... oh yeah, and a head gasket failing.... it's been wonderful. Ooops, forgot about the coil packs and clutch pressure plate failing...
LOL @ the guys who don't want to pay a little more cause mine has CPO. Buy that 30,000 KM car outside of warranty and pay MORE cause it's low mileage... @ 50,000 when all the above happens, don't cry to me about the $10,000+ repair bill...
Then again, what's this DME relay failure business!
*note, two winters and 12+ track days... I don't think any other car could have done better consider the use I put the car through.*

We occasionally have someone who posts some pretty ridiculous questions (like, can I drive my Porsche in the rain?)...I have no idea where these new "911" owners are coming from!!

FWIW, my 95 993 had 50K miles when I bought it. Not only was it driven daily as my commuter, but I also tracked it extensivley for 3 or so years. Zero surprises, zero problems, zero issues beyond normal maintenance. And I am now at about 130K+ miles and it honestly pulls as strong and feels just as smooth as when I first got her ...and is still daily driven with continual romps to redline.
I now have an 82 911SC as my track car. Just like the 993, it gets flogged but never pampered. Yeah, bulletproof. Factor in age and mileage, to be sure. But "major problems" with these engines? ...meh, just haven't seen it.
And while my experience with these two cars is certainly small example, it is echoed time and again from owners ...on the track, no less. So while I do not wish to disparage the later cars, I think it is fairly safe to say they have not yet earned this reputation of such stalwart reliability under such duress.

2. Carry a spare DME
3. Change oil more frequently (too late now)
4. Replace the slave cylinder
5. Fix the check strap
6. Watch where you are driving
7. Keep the car in the garage. The germans know a thing or two about rain.
Just get out there and enjoy it!
