Yeah, those belts can be problematic I hear. Luckily my mechanic just changed mine and even though he told me the job books at 14 hours, he only charged me 10 and threw in the belts for free!

"In comparison, the 993 will always feel like a special moment in history. The dictates of the modern world mean there can never be another car like it, so it will continue to be hailed as the last classic 911. This 1994 Porsche 911 Carrera is one of the finest sports cars ever produced".

I think this sums it up. From the above link in the post by 993RS.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the last 911 to be built to spec (and for profit) was the 964. For 993 production some streamlining and cost cutting was introduced as CEO Wiedeking began implementing "kai zen" practices. One small but visible example is the hood no longer being clear-coated on the inside on the 993.

IMHO Wiedeking needs to be credited for Porsche's survival in the mid- to late nineties, but in retrospect I think we all agree (on this board anyway) that he took things a bit too far with the cost cutting with the early 996s and Boxsters.

Don't forget the single weld at the door strap. How much could that have saved Porsche?

i like the interior of my 964 and 993. I was in a Chrysler rental car a few weeks back and could not believe all of the buttons and ***** etc it had.

I like 996's! They don't look as good as a 993 or 997, but they still look better than plenty of other sports cars out there.
