Can you help identify this part?

What is this part in the engine compartment?
Is has started to disintegrate and is falling apart. What is it, and what does it do?
(see yellow arrow)

Air duct.
Part number 964.106.403.02 on M64.05/06/07/08
Part number 993.106.403.00 on M64.21/22/23/24

part of heat exchanger system, I think.

that is an air duct...it is needed for the engine/heater cooling system....that one is part # 99310640300
