When hit from behind, it often pays to file the claim for damages directly against the insurance company covering the driver that hit you. This approach allows you to pursue the diminished value claim and eliminates any deductible your policy may have. While your policy may not allow diminished value claims, you can be successful in collecting them from the company insuring the driver that hit you.
Since your car also hit the car in front of you perhaps this approach is not an option since your company may need to handle that claim.
Diminished value on a 16 year old car w/272,000+ miles that had already had a total repaint? Chubb is a first class insurance company. I should get my deductable back from them since I am not at fault, and they will collect from the at fault party's insurance company. They will pay for all OEM parts, not aftermarket or used/rebuilt. Since the at fault party caused the damage to my car and the car I was pushed into, my company will not be paying for the damage to the car in front of me. If I don't get my deductable back from my company then I will take the responsible party to the People's Court! What I am losing is the use of my car during prime convertable weather, and that is priceless.
Finally, a chance for the rest of us to make up some miles on your car....if I drive everyday, all day while your car is in for repairs, I should be able to surpass your mileage
+1 on not wasting time on diminished value. Too many miles and too many priors to count IMHO. Great that you have Chubb, they will see it is done right.
You might want to consider asking the body shop to have a paintless guy knock out the smaller dings. I know you're repainting anyway but I always like to try to avoid filler if at all possible.
