windshield rust
would you buy a 993 that is showing signs of rust at the windshield? i'm looking at a local 993 and noticed that there is rust forming under the paint at the lower passenger side of the windshield. i've researched the rust issue, and it seems to be a very popular problem. how much is it to repair? it seems like the window would need to be removed, and depending on the extent of the damage the rust would be ground out and then treated with rust prohibitor and painted.
Is it surface rust, or eating the panel rust?
Just surface rust would be an easy fix, just do it when you get a new windshield. If the rust is real bad it can be a little expensive to fix.
Best bet, take a few pics, ask your body shop what they would charge to fix it.

Right, happened to my car. Needs a new windshield. It is a fairly common problem. If the PPI shows the rest of the car is OK (check for oil leakage... another problem which often crops up...), calculate the price of the windshield plus bodywork/paint costs...
If it is something you are aware of, I would buy the car, provided the price reflects the repair. Assume worst case when calculating repair cost.
I just bought a C4S from Detroit. Beautiful car, but had a bad spot of rust on the cowl on the passengers side. My body guy has seen it, and it will be like new when he is done. The rust looked bad, and what I was willing to give for the car reflected worst case. Plan on pulling the windshield if it is near it, and assume you won't know everything for sure till the glass is out. You may be OK if it stops before the windshield seal.
Just my .02 cents worth.
Good luck,
Emerald

This happened on my car 4 years ago. The body shop did a nice repair ($1400, but that included the door-check repair too). I had a windshield leak afterward but the shop eventually replaced the windshield at their expense. I have a rust spot below the rear glass now.
Factor the repair into your purchase price. Good luck.

thanks for the advice. my initial thoughts seem to fall in line with our advice. i have only seen the car by high resolution pics. i'm working to set up a tire kicking and if that goes well i will have a ppi done to verify the condition on the rest of the car. my offer price will definitely reflect the costs for repairs. thanks!

Where are you? FWIW, I paid $350 to get the rust fixed in one corner of my windshield. But the windshield was out at the time- that made it easier. Guy did a heck of a job- can't see the blend unless you know where to look.
Good luck!
