Default 18 or 19" on a Targa

Fellow P Monkeys;

What will the ride be like with 18/19s or a Targa that has been lowered?
TIA

I think that anything bigger than 18" is too big for any 993, regardless of platform. The 19"s will also be a lot heavier and you won't gain any performance from them.

Cabrio993 said all you need to know. And I'll add tires in a 19" size will also be more expensive and heavier than the 18" alternative. 19's just don't look right in my mind on the 993.

I have 18" and they are perfect. I also have lowered suspension. One thing you have to consider is that with a targa you will get rattles. When i switched to 18" i noticed and increase with 19" i personally think it will not be good for the targa. In the manual i believe it states not to go over 17" for targa...

18's would be a good choice, but as far as those that that say 19's don't look good, I give you "exhibit A" (Mike J's Targa). I think this looks smoking hot!

Yes, Raid 340mm Daytona. It is a great steering wheel. It really transformed the car for the better for me.

19" wheels are heavier, use more expensive tires, lead to zero performance improvement, don't look right, result in a harsher ride, and are more easily bent. Gee, what's not to love about them?

As I've posted before, it's 4 lbs. from 11X18 996 Turbo hollow spokes/Hankook V12 295/30-18 (51lbs.) to 12X19 997 GT3/Michelin Pilot Sport 305/30-19 (55lbs.).

In my case, as I'm running those sizes stock to a 997, the OD is 1" greater. So there's no further risk of bending a wheel as the sidewall height is nearly identical.

All-in-all, unless you're running on the best of pavement 99+% of the time, it's a negative.

There is an improvement in lateral play in the 19" wheel/tire combo. They are firm and I was able to make adjustments to the PSS9/RS sways to make it handle like no other 993 I have driven. Very little slop between the steering wheel and pavement; excellent communication at the edge.

When driving this set up, I felt the same type of disconnect going to 18" as one feels when stepping down to 17" wheels from 18" wheels.

Price makes them silly and I'll never do it again baised on that alone.

The roads here are very well kept, no snow damage/pot holes etc.

Looks great IMO..

I tried 19x11 on my targa with the correct offset and tires, but due to my lowered ride... It didn't clear on one side.
