One owner Pastel Yellow Targa on ebay
Wow. For all you PY fans out there, I was looking around my usual sites during the latest rainstorm and came across this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1997-...#ht_584wt_1184
Another PY car. Nice. No affiliation, etc.
Seems to be generating lots of interest...

I called The Dealer (European Collectibles) and they're trying to get around $45,000 for the car - a one owner '97 Targa with 33,000 miles. I bought my
'95 coupe with about 35,000 mi for about $35,000 last year from Richard Sloan and I thought that was a lot! At the time it seemed that Targas were commanding less $ than the coupes on average, but the dealer tried to tell me that because they're more rare they always cost more. He also tried to tell me that if I knew anything about these cars I'd know the '97s and '98s commanded more $ than the '95s. After which I asked him if it was an S or something, knowing that they didn't make Targa S's. He replied no but that the 97s and 98s were just much more desirable than 95s.
Umm, what am I missing here? Other than Varioram, which '96s also have, is there anything about a '97 that makes it better than my '95? The guy seemed pretty pompous and I wasn't going to argue with him about the desirability of a targa vs coupe, but as pretty as it is, I ain't buying it. Figuratively or literally.

allow me to be the first to yell - BS!!!! Targa's are less common for sure. no such thing as an S as Targas are cab bodies with a targa roof system. at this point price is much more about condition, mileage, mods, maint records, etc than just the year it was made.
but remember he's a car salesman - enough said!

Speed yellow targas cost more :-)...Not PY. I do think he is right on the 96-98 demanding more. Search on cars.com and autotrader.
I'm not saying one is better... Just an observation.

Not so sure. Many prefer 95s due to OBD1 and lack of SAI issues. And $45,000 is S territory.

I do love the more odd colors and have never seen a Pastel Yellow Targa before. I wonder if they made any Riv Blue ones... if so, that'd absolutely be my dream car.
Price does seem steep, but if someone wants to pay it, it's great for everyone here except those of us without 993s at the moment.

I really like PY, obviously, so that's a plus for me. I realize a lot of people wouldn't want one, even those who have never seen one in person. It's funny, because I wouldn't buy a SY one. Weird, I know, but the color difference is that striking to me.
No interest in a Targa, but I wonder how many one owner, low mileage unmolested 993s are left of any body style or color? Since I have a 993 of the same color now, I hope he gets his rather strong price.

I'm not saying his price is on target. I'm just commenting on the price of 95's vs 96-98's.
I agree 100 percent on the challenges some face in a 96-98 993 that 95's don't worry about.
But ...if you check on autotrader, ebay and cars.com ...96-98 sellers are asking more.

I've heard through the grapevine that the guys at new second EC showroom on PCH in Newport are arrogant. I hope this gets to Nick and Chris. They don't need some new jerky salesmen ruining what it took them years to build. They are nice guys.
That being said. It's a pretty car. There, I said it. Pretty. I like pretty. Nothing wrong with a pretty car.
