Hey Rennlisters!

I've ordered and will soon have a complete set-2 300(6"tall), and 2 387(8"tall) gutter mounts for sale. They have a RL'ers name on them for right of first refusal...

Let me know...

Jakob - you've got a PM. Ignore the shipping cost as I didn't know you are from Toronto so you can come pick them up!

There are factory roof bars as well. They are cleverly made so the cross bars stay flat on top. Wonder if they are still available?

What kind of weight can that hold. Could they hold 4 race tires with some sort of a frame?

I think I remember Thule setting the limit at 50lbs. That being said, two full suspension mtn bikes go over that mark.

I have seen plenty of people put track day rubber up top, you certainly won't be the first.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about a wheelset up there.

I would. Given everything I remember from the old days would have been along the lines of 205/50-15 on 7" cookie cutters or Fuchs, we're talking double with what an 18X10 with a 265 weighs.

I think if you put a lot of weight on the roof rack that exceeds the weight limit, it could be a big problem if they ever came loose in a crash or an emergency stop situation - it would be bad.

Google "Tire Tail" and see if a Porsche shop can weld up something clever like this that can be removed if desired?

OR...

Anyone use a fairing with the roof rack? I have a Yakima system with Thule surf rack that is always on the car and makes a lot of noise if the sunroof is open. I would love to be able to start using the sunroof again. Anyone tried a fairing? If so, what size?

(edit: sold this)

I used the collapsible roof bag/box with 75-100 pounds or so inside with no issues. Obviously, this setup isn't level, but I preferred this look when they are bare. Comes with locks and keys; they were used when I got them so there are some scratches and a few paint chips, but they honestly look just fine when mounted. Bars are the Thule plastic-coated, cut down to be a nice width for the 993, edges painted after I cut them to stave off rust (there are plastic caps that go on the end of each bar to cover the edges).

Bottom pic is cell phone pic taken just prior to embarking on a Daytona 24 road trip. 15-17 MPG highway was the result

I think mine is the middle of the Yakima offerings. No idea if it will help with what you want to do, as I always remove the rack when I'm done transporting.

(Yes, I think that was an unpleasant drive home that day, getting caught out with snowfall and having the 19's mounted.........)

Race911, thanks for the help. Also glad to see someone else using their c4s correctly.
